"Great place to stay for Ambleside and the Lakes. Just five minute walk into town. Small room but you expect that in the Lakes. There is parking (it is very tight!). We didn’t see any staff but they sent us comprehensive self check in info. Everything you need for a couple of nights in Ambleside. Would definitely stay here again."

"What a lovely venue. I booked the small, 1-bed room (number 7) for an impromptu weekend of walking in the lakes in Aug 2026. The B&B itself is beautiful and well positioned for easy access to the delightful town of Ambleside. It was the perfect base for 2 days of walking (Wansfell Pike, Scaffel Pike, Bowfell, Crinkle Crags etc). The hotel is in excellent condition and really well furnished. I managed to grab breakfast on Sunday morning and it was delicious (really generous portions and perfectly cooked). I didn't have a need to speak with the on-site team that much but when I did they were friendly and helpful. The whole booking experience was pain free from start to finish and I would definitely recommend to others. My one minor negative comment relates to the en-suite shower in bedroom 7. The ceiling is quite low which could be a problem for anyone over 6' tall. This really is a very minor point though. If you're looking for the perfect base for a delightful break in the Lakes, then I would definitely recommend Elder Grove"

"I loved my stay here. The location is perfect. Ambleside is very walkable so everything was close. The room had windows with beautiful views of the town, and I really appreciated there being a full length mirror in there. It was quiet and comfortable. Meg and John take great care of their guests. I was given a parking disc that could be used at a few different car parks in the area. Breakfast was absolutely lovely with a lot of choices. I’m so pleased with my choice to stay here!"

"Lovely little cottage on the outskirts of Ambleside. Nicely decorated, with comfy bed and fully kitted kitchen. Owners have provided board games and leaflets/info of area. Please note it is an old property with very steep stairs and tight doorways upstairs. Tricky for those with mobility issues or small children."
