Farmstay in Portugal

"The pictures on Expedia and their website do not do justice to this place. It is a very impressive working winery and the rooms are well appointed. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were excellent though service was mixed when it was busy. My only complaint is that the ‘smoking area’ for diners is close to the outdoor terrace and with the prevailing wind it meant that you could smell and taste the cigaretttes at that end of the terrace - not pleasant when you are not used to it. "Very unique experience - beautiful rustic setting with many farm animals on property and as it is a converted estate, has a lot of character. The restaurant was fabulous - personal touch by the manager and cook Ricardo who took the time to make it a true gastronomic experience. Everything cooked in wood burning oven, most everything served is locally sourced. Also fabulous breakfast. "

"If you have a car, and have the good fortune to be traveling in the Douro Valley, this place is not to be missed. It is a bit hard to get to, but well worth the effort. I regret that I didn’t build in a day just to relax, visit one or 2 of the nearby (5 minute drive) wineries, and relax by the pool...
