Rainforest Relaxation at the Datai Langkawi
Set in an area of pristine rainforest that is literally as old as the hills, the Datai is an exclusive haven for those who want to escape planet Earth, at least for a little while. Trade your morning commute for a walk with a naturalist; swap urban pollution for pure air; noisy neighbours for chattering monkeys; chilly drizzle for wrap-around warmth, and hard pavements for the softest sand underfoot.
With more than 100 Langkawi hotels to choose from the Datai stands out above the rest due to the amazing location of this minimalist eco-resort. Shy dusky leaf monkeys peer down from the trees with unashamed curiosity as you unload your bags from your private car transfer and walk into the open-air lobby.
You’ll quickly find the Datai is all about modern comforts and attentive service in a luxury resort that is at one with nature.
Rooms And Suites At The Datai Langkawi
The Datai offers a range of rooms and suites in the main building or in secluded private villas in the rainforest or near the beach.
There’s no such thing as a standard room. Choose from family-sized air conditioned pavilions with a Jacuzzi pool and butler service; premium rooms with treetop views; beach villas with private pools and a butler service; spacious two-bedroom pool suites with kitchen and living room, and corner suites with stunning views from the balcony.
These comfortable rooms, understated suites and superior villas are completely in harmony with the rainforest thanks to their polished wood flooring, silk-lined walls and airy beamed ceilings. Crisp white linens complement the neutral colour palette of the Balinese-style furniture. Of course, all rooms have plenty of luxurious touches, including cool marble bathrooms, LCD TVs with Bose sound systems and Lavazza coffee machines.
Eat And Relax
Start the day decadently with the famous Datai champagne buffet brunch in The Dining Room or breakfast in the Lobby Lounge – a popular place for snacks and refreshments during the day.
The Beach Club on the waterfront is the perfect place to enjoy sunset cocktails or a romantic beach barbecue accompanied by the gentle sounds of the sea.
Dine by candlelit in the elegant dining room as darkness comes swiftly and early in the tropics. With indoor and outdoor seating you can also dine beneath the stars if you wish.
More dining options at the Datai include savouring fragrant Thai cuisine in The Pavilion, perched high on the mountainside or enjoying traditional Malaysian and Indian dishes in The Gulai House.

When To Visit Langkawi
The best time to visit the duty-free island of Langkawi is during the dry season, from December to March. However, it is the hottest season when daytime highs can reach 34 degrees Celsius (93 degrees Fahrenheit). It is also the most expensive time for booking flights and hotels on Langkawi.
The mid-season, from April to August, has occasional short showers and slightly cooler temperatures. September to mid-November is the rainy season, although there’s still plenty of sunshine each day. Seas can be choppy, ruling out boat tours.
Tip: Ramadan has special significance in the Islamic religious calendar, but it’s business as usual at high-end resorts such as the Datai.

Travelling to Langkawi
Langkawi International Airport (LGK) is served by several airlines including Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Tigerair. Cheap flights to Langkawi are available from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Thailand and many other international destinations. Transfers to the Datai are easy with a private car and driver service.
You can journey by ferry from the mainland to Kuah. The trip takes 90-minute or you can charter a private speedboat for a fast but sometimes bumpy ride.
Tip: If you need cash, it pays to know that ATMs occasionally run out of money on Langkawi, particularly during festivals and on weekends. Obtain some Malaysian ringgit for tips and local purchases before leaving the mainland or use the ATM on arrival in Langkawi Airport.
