Excellent location - right near train/bus station so super convenient

Some parts of hotel looked a little worn but our room was big and clean and very comfortable with great views of the river."

"so it's a typical ryokan, we've been to a few. A little bit older, a little faded, but nice.
One thing for westerners to be aware of, the food is not toned down for tourists. This is real traditional Japanese food. A lot of it has that pronounced funky fish taste ( i love fish, but this is different). And breakfast is the same, we passed on bfast the 2nd day. Too much for my western stomach."

"This is a shoe-free hotel. You leave your shoes in a locker at the entrance and walk around in socks for the entire stay. All was good until I had a simple request. I asked if an attendant could call a local clinic to find out if they could see me for an urgent eye issue. No matter how I explained my request, I couldn’t get anyone to call or explain why they wouldn’t. I’ve used Google Translate in other cities in Japan, but here it only caused confusion. I ended up wasting an hour and a half...

"The staff here were so friendly and helpful. They really made you feel welcomed and helped you settle in. The property is beautiful, a classic traditional Japanese style ryokan and they provide slippers and robes as well. It was a very enjoyable stay for us. Even given the 15-20minute walk from the train station, you’re surrounded by beautiful nature and architecture, so it doesn’t feel very far at all. Our room had a private onsen which was fantastic, definitely a highlight! We recommend...

"This property is a private appatment, which is fairly obvious when booking. What is not obvious was that it is a very steep climb in the 1km walk from the railway station. The "How to get there" Info made available after booking was very detailed but should include "if you have heavey luggage, take a taxi!"."
