"The hotel is very dated. The room we were in was small, which wasn’t a problem, apart from it was stuffed full of 90’s furniture - we were literally tripping over it and each other. The door hit into the bed as we walked in, there four sets of drawers (12 drawers!), a fridge, bed (very small), tub chair and massive TV. Yes, you read that right, 12 drawers in a tiny room - who needs 12 drawers, in addition to a large hanging area?! The decor was very dated, paint and wallpaper peeling off the walls. The bathroom was tiny, dark, very tired and only a light sprinkling of water came from the shower head. The toilet needed a couple of flushes to flush toilet roll. You could hear other guests in the corridor and walking around in rooms above. There was no help offered to get our bags to the room and directions to the room were hard to understand. The windows only opened a couple of inches so I imagine in the hot weather the room would be quite uncomfortable, although I did see a portable fan in the room. There were no sockets near the mirror and no full length mirror so that wasn’t helpful. The room was clean so a positive, other than a big cobweb hanging from the ceiling. We spent our time out all day and night so we didn’t have much time in the room so we managed, but we wouldn’t stay again. It’s such a shame because it’s a beautiful building, it just needs a few million spent on it!"

"Reception staff were great, very friendly. The pool was fab, nice and clean and great for the kids. The room was a good size and clean, if not a little run down. We had the top room with skylights for windows, one of had a broken blind that wouldn’t go down. It meant we couldn’t make the room dark which made it difficult to get the kids to sleep and when the sun came up at 5am it woke all of us up too. The air con also didn’t work and the room was roasting hot. It had been a sunny day so the room was already hot before we got into it. I suspect staff knew about the issues with the room prior to us checking in as every blind was pulled down except for the one broken one, but obviously I can’t prove this. We tried to change rooms but the hotel was at capacity and by the time we realised the blind didn’t go down we were already unpacked with the kids in bed trying to get them to sleep and it seemed like too much hassle. We all had a terrible nights sleep due to the temp of the room and getting up at the crack of sparrows. In hindsight we should have packed up and moved hotels. Reception staff were apologetic in the morning a advised management would be in touch, however we received an email saying we’d have to go through hotels.com to complain as we had booked through them. Needless to say we didn’t get very far with them. Overall hotel was nice but the issues room really ruined it and would put me off staying again."

"Ridiculously busy set up of an open day full of cadent gas engineers all clogging up the walkways which was quite dangerous with a lot of tripping hazards for us normal guests. Poorly organised and chaos everywhere. All vehicles were just abandoned in the car park, again mainly cadent engineers attend attending the open day. Terrible from start to finish."
