Hotel St. James

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel has a great (and, surprisingly, quiet) location on the 42 Street, right near the super busy and hectic Times Square. There is a very cool store, a sort of a small diner next door, open 24h, that offers a variety of foods, beverages, snacks, etc. They have a nice sitting area upstairs and a big screen TV there - we just happened to watch for 20 minutes one of the World Cup soccer games there. They make fresh sandwiches, bagels, etc. for a reasonable price, esp. for NYC. Across the street, you can find a Starbucks store, Walgreens (we got a few bottles of water there). There is a subway stop nearby. You are near all Broadway shows' theaters and plenty of different restaurants. The hotel itself has a nice, old world ambiance in the lobby, with its furniture, an old (still, working!) phone, etc. There was a cozy bar area in the lobby, with a TV. The AC in the room worked great - we could get a good night sleep and it was nice to come to the cool room during the 100 plus degrees heat wave in early July. The pillows were very comfortable, too. The hotel staff was very friendly, accommodating, easy to talk to and courteous, from the housekeepers (Barbara (originally, from Poland) and another one whose name I forgot (she was from Ukraine) to Emma at the reception desk and Margaret, the front desk manager. They let us store our luggage when we arrived early on our first day and on the our last day, as still had time to explore the city before our departure."

"Junior and Armanda were exceptionally helpful and accommodating! After a fiscal with parking, Junior was able to rectify the issue and offered additional support for my daughters and I! Extraordinary view of the city and security was always around. Breakfast was delicious and not like a full service, but offered us just what we needed to start the day. Exceptional location real close to Time Square. We enjoyed everything about this location and the extremely helpful staff. Definitely a place to consider if you like somewhere close to Time Square, but not a lot of space in the rooms. Just enough room for 2 beds and the restroom. Amenities were very nice and useful. They even cleaned out room while we were out all day and did a great job!"
