"The desk clerk of this property was very kind but the property, and especially the rooms were far from what was expected for $$$ we paid. The room smelled of mildewed sheets and dog dander. The beds slanted - not setting properly on bed frames. Sofa cushions sank into the frames and tiles chipped and lacked grouting in the bathrooms. "I have stayed at this hotel many times and it has become my go-to whenever I have an early flight or a late-night arrival. The property is always very clean, the staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast is surprisingly good every time. This particular stay was after a long day of work travel and delayed flights, so I didn’t arrive until around 1 a.m. Everything was perfect until the next morning when I was trying to sleep in a bit. "The Montvale was very pleasant! The rooms were clean and quiet. The staff was helpful, and everything needed to be comfortable was provided. The complimentary breakfast at a nearby diner was a nice touch. "

"The facility was older but clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was satisfactory, but the bathroom was in poor shape. The bathtub had some type of epoxy like they use on boats all over the bottom of the tub. It was bumpy and peeling. The bathtub was very uninviting. "I booked and paid for a room on a Friday night @ 5:30 pm. I went to a party and decided I shouldn't drive to the property. When I went there at 9 am to shower and prepare for my Saturday and possibly pay for another night, I was turned away as a "no show". I thought that since I paid $90 for a room that it would be mine until check out @ 11AM. "Staying here is like stepping back in time to a more elegant and refined era. The house is filled with antiques and has been decorated with great taste. It has a wonderful sitting area downstairs, and the bedrooms are whimsical and delightful. The breakfasts far exceeded my expectations. Maybe best thing of all is the proprietor, Holland. She is warm, engaging and thoroughly charming. My wife and I hope to have reasons to visit Spokane, again, soon, so we can stay here, again. "
