The staff was very accomodating, they even baked a cake for us to celebrate a special event and tried to make the stay memorable for us. Would definitely recommend

The concept is an all included one. Therefore little choices to be made. The reception is good, the lodges show tear and wear. Illumination is not good, shower and sink are ready for a renovation. The most important thing that you miss is wifi access in the lodge. Certainly on a wet day!
The swimming pools are great. One can not walk far without a guide, so plan this ahead. The food is OK as a buffet style can be.

Very basic hotel
Very basic rooms and with only mosquito net and no glass on top windows so you are awoken very early by sounds from neighbours and staff as well as wildlife animals. Not very attentive staff, we struggled to find someone to help us with information several times. And food is okay but again very basic. The grounds (pool area, beach, bar etc.) are all very nice though. Be aware that to get to Tortuguero village you need to pay for taxi boats which can quickly add up if you want to go on tours, visit other restaurants etc.
We really enjoyed our stay at Laguna lodge, the staff were amazing and the family pool was lovely, they also make great cocktails, with bars at both pools and also a lovely bar over looking the lagoon.
The only negative for us was the restaurant, the food was ok but buffet cycled through two options over two nights, so was a bit repetitive if staying for more than two nights and not many options for a vegetarian, however there were many great dining options in the town, which is a 30 minute walk away, or you can take a water taxi. Something we didn’t know was that there were no option in Tortuguero to get cash and all the taxi boats were cash only.
There were also many great tours available locally, we particularly enjoyed a night time turtle tour seeing the green turtles come to shore to lay eggs and also a daytime tour where we were lucky to see the babies hatching, we stayed there in September.
Lovely relaxing place. Greeted at the airport first thing & a breafast table was ready waiting for us when we arrived at the hotel which was a great bonus. Especially when we left our hotel in San Jose at 04.30am.
The staff were really helpful, friendly & spoke great english. The room was clean and tidy. The grounds were lovely & home to an abundance of wildlife.
Tortugero is in walking distance of approx 30 mins. The sunrise boat through the national park was great & the guides very knowledgeable. We saw plenty of wildlife. We walked through the rainforest in the afternoon and saw sloths & monkies.
Plenty of food choice at both breakfast & lunch. Free coffee & tea 24/7 in the restaurant & plenty of umbrellas around just in case.
My only gripe would be theres limited hooks in the room especially for hanging wet clothes & the deeper pool needs some attention, but I do note the 2nd pool has been renovated, so i think its a work in progress but dont let thus put you off by any means.
Amazing slice of Paradise. Right on the beach and the river and in the jib the. Saw iguanas, toucans, humming birds, armadillos sloths and lots of beautfirul butterflies
Lovely pools and great breakfast
Would thoroughly recommend
Rustic glamping comes to mind! Cabins can get hot as there is no AC. But you are in the middle of the park and the birds wake you up with loud chirping at 5am!
If you enjoy stained sheets, insects in your room, sleepless nights due to unbearable heat and noisy neighbors — this is the place for you.
Out of the three “tours” included in the package, two were completely misleading: one was just a walk around the property, and the other was a 2km walk into town. The only real activity, watching turtles on the beach (just 20 meters away), cost an extra $50 — a complete rip-off.
The price-to-quality ratio is completely off. Save your money and stay elsewhere.
Liked: Beautiful natural surroundings, eating meals alongside the lagoon. Lovely gardens and grounds, well cared for. Abundant, helpful, well-trained staff. They’re well-organized for managing big groups of tourists. Guides to teach us about local plants and animals. The town is a 20-30 min walk from the lodge. Rooms were clean, in simple, appealing wooden buildings. Disliked: Shocked to find it’s focused on package tours. Hated the crowds and having to take all our meals there (mediocre buffet). Lack of communication from Expedia or hotel about essential information. Overpriced ($270/night) for what you get. Rooms lack place to hang damp clothing. No blow dryer. Very limited internet access. The gorgeous Caribbean beach is littered with trash! Plastic and junk all along the beach kept guests away. It’s unforgivable that a pricy lodge does not clear its beach of rubbish and litter.
