Stjordal

Travel Guide

The many moods of the cultural landscape and the historical features make Stjørdal so much more than just a simple gateway.

Stjørdal is situated in a very fertile part of Norway and has been a source of agriculture for thousands of years. With agriculture came the nobility, and the farms, castles and churches in the area have been the scene of several important events in Norwegian history. A holiday in Stjørdal provides you with an excellent opportunity to experience wilderness, both on land and at sea, as well as magnificent architecture. One destination that fulfils both requirements is Steinvikholm Castle at Skatval, situated on Steinvikholmen in Åsenfjorden.

Stjørdalshalsen is an inviting village in the area and offers several pleasant experiences for a weekend trip. If you're looking for a city break, Trondheim is close by, brimming with big-city opportunities. The train into the city takes around 35 minutes and there are departures at least once an hour. If you are travelling to Trondheim by plane, you will actually see Stjørdal – as this is where Trondheim Airport Værnes is situated.

With its central location between Northern and Southern Norway, the area is characterised by centuries of trade, which also made its way east into Sweden. All kinds of craftsmen created products for the domestic market, and several workshops and other buildings have been preserved at the Museum of Stjørdal. This, and the Hegra fort museums are mandatory destinations for historians.

Stjørdal has a real treat to offer music lovers with the annual blues festival, Blues in Hell. This event is held in the village of Hell, situated immediately south of Stjørdalshalsen and draws thousands of visitors every autumn. Every third year, in autumn, Agrisjå, one of Norway’s largest agricultural shows is also held here. The show is a Mecca for those interested in agricultural machinery, livestock innovations and much more within the field – but with a Trøndelag twist.

Do you appreciate history and outdoor activities but also want the opportunity to visit a city? If yes, Stjørdal has a lot to offer. New, old, wild and beautiful go hand in hand. You will not regret making the journey!

Outstanding staff
This property is not a sparkling, newly built property, but is quite comfortable and has the most accommodating and helpful staff I think I've ever encountered. They made all the difference in our visit.
