"A 1 night stop-off on my way to Scotland. I stayed here as it had a gym and (small) pool with sauna. The staff were lovely with special thanks to the lady on the leisure club reception who let me use the studio. I also used the pool, sauna and jacuzzi which were small but clean (there's a steam room too but that was temporarily unavailable).
The hotel is looking a little tired but is clean with good sized comfortable rooms at a decent price. Have previously stayed at another chain hotel close...

"Mercure at St. Helens is not bad, but can be better. I think the rooms need new rugs or carpets as they're called here. The hotel has more potential. Breakfast was okay. The parking is fantastic and I'm so grateful for the free parking."
