The Capitol Hotel

2/10 Terrible

"The only positive of this place would be the view of the capitol building. The building and rooms are out-dated, but the worst part was the maintenance. The hotel has a lot of issues with hotel card readers on the room doors, which do not work or reset after a day. I had to get a new room the first day because the key card couldn't be read, and then had to go down to the lobby repeatedly, to the key card reset. Other guests were having the same issue. The room that I had had an odd, moldy smell, which was the first thing I noticed. There were a couple stains on the old-looking carpet. The king bed mattress was old and uncomfortable. Half the light bulbs in the room were out. The tv was old and pre-streaming services, and old had cable. It looked like there was supposed to be a full-length mirror next to the room entrace, but it was missing. The bathroom was the worst part. There was mold on the ceiling and stains, possibly mold on the shower curtain. The sink was missing the part that pulls up the stopper, so you just had to reach in and pull the stopper out completely in order for the sink to drain. There was hair all on the walls of the bathtube and inside. There was a roll of toilet paper with like 6 squares on it, and the towels and wash clothes were the thinnest, cheapest towels I have ever seen. It was clear that neither the staff or management care about this hotel. It seems all that time and money went into hiring photographers to make it look good online..."

"To anyone about to stay or thinking about staying at this Best Western Hotel. Be aware that if you book multiple days you will be charged in full instead of one night before you check in even if you stated pay at hotel. Second if you need to check out early on a multiple day stay you will be charged the full stay no matter what the situation was for you leaving early. When things are fine the staff was friendly. But as soon as you need something done, like leave early and get refund for the nights that you did not use, they are not so nice. Front desk clerk was very rude and did care about my situation. He made an already stressful situation worse and I had to pay for two night I never used. Just a shameful practice. The hotel was not even sold out not even close to sold out. I will never stay at this hotel again."

"This was my second time staying at this hotel. No complaints or concerns very clean and staff was very polite... my only suggestion is that they should change up the breakfast options. Like maybe some bacon instead of the sausage or have both."

"Room smelled of heavy cigarette smoke. Large cigarette burn hole in bedspread & blanket, bed had to be stripped & remade, top sheet was on top of the blanket instead of top of fitted sheet, 1 of the pillows had a stain & short black hair & I requested it to be replaced, Remote to TV dead & needed new batteries, sink was plugged & maintenance had to come in & fix it"

"I reserved the room through Expedia ten minutes before my arrival, but it took nearly an hour for hotel staff to receive the reservation. In the interval, the room I requested was given to a walk-in customer. The staff blamed Expedia's reservation system, but I knew the reservation had been sent to Hilton because I got a partial reservation number. The staff was unsympathetic with my frustration (it was midnight) and advised me next time not to book through a third party. I asked for Hilton's central phone number; the staff ignored my request. The room we eventually got was fine -- spacious, clean and well-lit -- but the price was over $300. Parking was available in an adjacent building, but also more expensive than I would have expected."
