Pleasant character hotel

Really good value for an interesting character Hotel in wooded private grounds . Staff seemed few and far between but were all polite and willing to help , only down side was whilst a nice twin room the bathroom let it down cramped loo and impossible to have a bath or shower with climbing into the bath due to positioning of shower screen

hotel is very tired and needs updating the room had torn curtains & not as sparkling clean as expected. check in was fine & staff nice and friendly. food at dinner was fine and staff helpful although further training would improve this. All in all we would not stay again which is a shame as the hotel & grounds is beautiful.

The outside lighting was very poor, especially if you were in an outside room. The dinner menu was extremely limited. £20 for a burger.

Poor curtains in the property which allowed the light into the front facing room I was in. This was a motion sensored light that I can only imagine was being set off by the surrounding branches all night. Additionally the walls are very thin and whilst trying to get to sleep I could hear the neighbouring rooms conversation.

This was just a one night stay after collecting a car. The hotel is situated in some lovely grounds and it is an interesting building. The double room was comfy with a large en-suite bath/shower and tea making facility. The staff were always keen and pleasant. The only thing that let us down was our dinner. We booked for 6.30 pm but didn't get our meal until an hour later and there were only two other people in the restaurant ahead of us. When we finally got our meal it was was good. We would have given it 5 stars as for the price it was good value for money for the two of us, but the wait for the food was a let down.

Reasonable price and thus adequate for one night

Interesting old building sitting within pleasant grounds. If you like faded charm this is the place for you. Of course in a hotel like this it's no surprise that things are somewhat frayed round the edges, but within those confines there is room for improvement. For example, no information sheet in the room, no bottled water, an iron with something welded to the surface rendering it unusable, and a broken and cracked tile in the bathroom floor which actually lifts out and should be fixed before someone cuts their foot on the sharp edge. I won't stay again, not because of those matters, but because the evening meal was awful and the coffee served with (pretty basic) breakfast was diabolical.

A few problems!

Room (in stables block) was spacious & comfortable with a great king-size bed, but let down a bit by torn off section of curtain edge. Heating was effective, but couldn’t find how to control temperature, so had to just ‘on/off’ it. No ‘guide’ to services / facilities in room, and (small) TV didn’t seen to have a ‘what’s on’ guide. Restaurant had quite a limited menu, so didn’t have dinner there. Main hotel had power cut the next morning (stables block didn’t), so there was no hot drinks or cooked food for breakfast. Hotel apologised, offered cereal, fruit & yogurt and said they would give discount.

Hotel room was appalling. In the stables, steep staircase with loose handrail (unsuitable for physicaly unstable) Not mentioned in hotel description. Room was grim , holes in carpet, all furniture damaged and very tired , TV hanging dangerously off the wall, could not see out of window because it was so dirty, Curtain ragged and held up with what appeared to be paper clips, room 45 generally dingey , bathroom not much better. We could not stay there it had a very uncomfortable feel to it. Reception was a small table alongside a tatty curtain in a large space that was as decrepid as the room. A total waste of £115.00 Disgraceful !! We booked into another hotel via another site cost a bit more but well worth it

Booked the hotel for a Friday night as I was working locally at 8am Saturday and in arrival I checked in and asked what time breakfast service starts to be told 8 til 10.30 . I explained I needed to leave by 07.30 am and when I booked it said 7 til 09.30 daily and was told not on weekends . I asked if anything could be supplied and was told no . I had paid for my breakfast in advance but got nothing so had to leave hotel at 06.40 to find somewhere to eat . Very inconvenient and due to this did not get what I paid for . Lovely old building but very run down . Worn carpets and cracks in walls etc and a musty smell throughout . At these prices for a single traveller £82 for 1 night I would have been more comfortable in a chain hotel for half the price . Not impressed and won’t be returning or recommending to my work colleagues .

Charming and characterful

I thought the hotel was delightful…old and full of character. We were stopping off for an overnight stay on route to a festival at Cropredy. The room was small but had all the essentials, comfy bed, and the breakfast was delicious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Hopefully make this an annual stop over with our friends.

We love staying in this old house. Always book a queen room to stay in main building and front character filled room. My only ask is if the hotel could fix the orange light outside. They are beautiful and give a fantastic glow but one has a lose connection and needs fixing. Beautiful and relaxing. We’ll be back.

Beautifu building, limited service

the place looks great. Amazing garden, the building is beautiful. However, i feel like they don't know how to manage a kitchen, with long waiting time (1 hour to serve a burger only for example), despite low number of clients at the restaurant. i believe there were like 6 or 7 dishes proposed, of which 3 were not available one night. breakfast starts, there is no plate. i ask for my invoice, i get the wrong one.. the building is beautiful but needs refreshing as well, paint is peeling off the ceiling in many areas. Most of the points i mention are rather related to poor management than real investment, i hope this helps the hotel to improve..
