Taking a drive around the island with someone who lives there is an experience you don't want to miss, I've done it on two trips. Winson is the best guide for a private car tour of the island, and you can find him working at Las Rocas Resort and Dive Center in the onsite restaurant, Trattoria Da Puerto--a great place to stay, and the food is excellent....

"This is wonderful for what it is, a rustic beach stay. Pros: The location is amazing. The staff were amazing! Loved to secluded feel and enjoyed the hammocks and watching the humming birds. Walk to everything in just a few minutes. What it is not: This is not a resort with luxury linens and a polished feel. Think of your great uncles old and comfy summer cabin, the sink maybe chipped, there’s no tvs and it’s just basic accommodations. With all that we loved it! My teen boys said they...
