"The staff were very friendly and helpful. They accommodated us by making take away breakfast boxes because we had to leave early. Typical pub/inn with typical pub food. Under new management, so they were adjusting. The location was perfect, right in town and we got there early enough to get parking on site. "

"Room was very clean , staff were very friendly especially the young guy on reception. He explained where the best place was to watch the carnival. Great with my grandson who was disappointed he didnt get to say goodbye . Hotel is a little dated but didn't ruin our stay. The only moan i have is that the room was very hot and not thermostat. "

"Only a continental breakfast available which was limited. The bedroom was spacious and newly refurbished. It had everything we needed. Great location for Wells centre."

"Staff were very attentive, polite and explained what needed to know, checked us in very quickly and show to our room. Room was clean and stocked with pkenty of tea, coffee etc. Bed was very comfortable and nice fresh bedding and towels, toiletries were supplied. Food in the restaurant was very nice and a good price and generous portions. "

"What stood out??? Well, for one, it was the staff. They welcomed me and gave me a lovely room. I had a table booked for 10 of my family, and the food was excellent. The wine was superb too, and I asked for a favour, which they delivered. This is one of my favourite hotels in the UK and will be my go-to whenever I go to Somerset to see my family. The only downside is the parking, but that is minuscule compared to the service I received from The Ancient Gatehouse. Well done all. "
