This was my first international trip with my daughter, and I was excited for a relaxing vacation. Unfortunately, Meliá Caribe Beach Resort was a huge disappointment from the moment we arrived.
• Our room had a leaking fridge that left water all over the floor
• There were red ants crawling inside the in-room jacuzzi
• We found bugs on the buffet food and the food itself was mostly cold or poorly prepared
• Shuttle drivers ignored us multiple times even when we signaled for pickup
• The staff overall were rude and unhelpful, and the managers kept forgetting to book our dinner reservations
• To top it all off, we found a huge cockroach in our room
We tried to make the best of it and spoke to the staff, but nothing improved. We were offered a chance to move to another resort but only if we paid $180 more per night which is insulting after how bad the conditions were.
I contacted Expedia (who I booked through), and they admitted there were problems but said the hotel refused a refund. Another guest in my group received a full refund for the exact same experience, yet I was only offered $200. This is completely unfair and shows that neither the resort nor Expedia took my concerns seriously.
This experience was stressful, disappointing, and far from what was promised. I do not recommend this resort, especially if you’re expecting comfort, safety, or good service. I’ll never return.
