It's a great place to crash if you are traveling. If you are staying for more than two days I would book something nicer, but it was perfect for what we needed, and the staff is super friendly.
This is a very good budget option and I have stayed three times over ten years. Staff are friendly and helpful and property is quite decent and very close to town.
Nice location just on the edge of the village, totally walkable to the center of town in 5-10 minutes. Lovely pool and wonderful upstairs open air lounge to hang out in. Only downfall was street noise that affected sitting pool side.
The room was spacious and clean. The air conditioner work very well. The pool was clean and wonderful. The breakfast that was included was delicious and filled us up. We would stay here again.
We were at Lizard King during some rainy days and loved the balcony/2nd floor lounge areas. My husband was able to open his laptop - and work in a very comfortable area.

The female manager was not nice or helpful but the male receptionist was really nice and even went out of his way late at night to let us know our car lights were still on. It would have been awful to wake up to a dead car battery. The hotel itself was quieter than I expected being right on the main street of Puerto Viejo but we had a room in the back area. They do not provide breakfast. It's in a good location.
Positive and negative aspects of my accommodations
I want to express first the positive aspects of my stay for two nights as the staff members were exemplary beyond words as the professionalism which was displayed is one of the best of my many years of travel to Costa Rica as they should be recognized by management or owners of the hotel as they went beyond what is expected of a hotel employee.
Now my stay unfortunately was a major disappointment as the room was extremely dated from cracked tiles, to facets leaking in bathroom, to the beds which the frames were extremely filthy along with the matress, the doors not opening properly in the restroom to the jacuzzi in need of a major remodel. The noise at night is constant with the suite I was provided as the wooden floors above you would creak each time a person would walk and disturb your sleep constantly and the constant noise at the front desk with individuals talking as the suite is within 2 to 3 meters of this location.
This was my true and unbiased opinion of my stay as I hope in the future the rooms endure a complete remodel for guests to enjoy there travels
All of the staff were very kind , helpful, and exceeded our expectations. The pool was very nice , the air conditioning in the room was good, and there was lots of comfy areas to lounge around in outside of our room. However, I would not rate this property as 3 star as shown on Expedia. I am well travelled and recognize that different countries may have different ratings for hotels, but I would rate this property as 2.5 stars. We were not aware of any dining options at the hotel, although it appeared that there may have been a kitchen in the past but not used today except for preparing coffee in the morning. It appeared that the property is not being maintained adequately as there were some annoyances : we were without water in bathroom for awhile and we often could not get hot water for a shower after 10 AM. A smoke alarm was chirping for two days because either the battery was running low or the lifespan of the device had expired. One light in our bathroom was finicky and would not always work. On our last day it failed completely and would not turn on. The rooms face the beautiful pool but on a couple days the noise from children screaming and shouting in the evening was quite excessive. It can be noisy with traffic in the evening but we expected that given the property’s location. We booked a “Deluxe Queen” room but it was lacking in some areas: no closet to hang our clothes, bathroom sink was size found on airlines, only cold water at sink, small room.
We had a great stay. The staff were excellent. They were very kind, and made our stay very comfortable. The only thing l mussed was having a coffee machine, and a microwave. However they did provide coffee in the lobby in the morning. The hotel is right across the street from the ocean. Shopping , and restaurantes everywhere. Greeted with howler monkeys high up in the big tree across the street. Also a sloth right across the street.
It was a great place to stay but we did experience problems with the hot water. They were able to fix it but it was a pain waiting for a hot shower.

Staff were very nice but hotel was noisy both from the road and other guests. Only a cold water tap in the hand basin in the bathroom and the shower was very poor - cold/Luke warm water and very poor water pressure.
"I had reserved two rooms, but unfortunately, both of them had a bad smell. Although the staff tried to address the issue with freshener, it only worked temporarily and the smell returned in the evening, making it difficult to sleep. In addition, there was loud music coming from neighboring properties, which added to the unpleasant experience. As a result, I would not recommend this place and would not consider returning.
My first booking was cancelled without any reasonable reason. I was suppose to pay there and the hotel emailed me and asked me my card details via email to make a reservation. There is absolutely no reason to send my bank details to anyone via email. If they want to have reservation fee why not to let people pay for that online? Not very trustworthy. Staff at there when we were present. The walls were so thin you could hear EVERYTHING and every car.
