Planetarium Hamburg
Planetarium Hamburg

One of the most renowned planetariums in Europe is a great place to learn through interactive exhibits and enjoy 3-D experiences surrounded by images and sound.

Planetarium Hamburg welcomes about 300,000 visitors every year. Notice its unusual location in a beautiful tall building that was once a water tower. This celebrated institution has an imposing star dome that uses some of the latest technology to create 360-degree projections of the cosmos. Go on a virtual journey across the galaxy and unravel some of its most interesting mysteries.

Notice the Zeiss Universarium 9 projector, also called the Sky Machine. Its advanced projection system can produce an impressive depiction of a sky full of stars and planets. Enjoy an amazing experience created by a 3.2-foot (1-meter) central spherical ball containing 32 projectors. Admire the very realistic sparkling stars, which are re-created with special optics and fed with light by individual glass fibers.

The 3-D computer system used at the planetarium is called Digistar 6, the Cosmos Simulator. It’s a high-resolution system that uses real-time astronomy data, video and surround sound. Learn and have fun while you are completely enveloped by the great images created by the Digistar and projected onto the dome.

While you are visiting Planetarium Hamburg, make sure you see the cosmic laser show. The laser system used in the planetarium is one of the most modern systems of its kind in the world. Enjoy a performance created by laser light passing via fiber optics to nine different projectors.

The system also creates 70 effects through the use of mirrors and robotic arms that can rotate the projections in many different directions. Marvel at the view of the planetarium dome fully illuminated with laser graphics that can have over 16 million color shades.

Find Planetarium Hamburg at the center of Hamburg Stadtpark in the Winterhude district, Hamburg, Germany. A few buses can take you to the planetarium, such as one with a stop at Stadtpark. If you are arriving by car take the direction to City Nord to Stadtpark Winterhude and find parking on Otto-Wels-Straße or Linnering.
