We had a very nice stay at the Historic Cary House Hotel. The check in was smooth and the gal could not have been more lovely. I regret not learning her name to give her credit for making the stay perfect. She was very friendly and gave lots of good advice on places to eat. Overall just a really nice woman, she made us feel like we had been friends for years. The room was very nice as well. We stayed in a two bedrooms, and it had plenty of space. It’s been updated and had a cute kitchen with two refrigerators. The beds were all upgraded to memory foam mattresses. There were extra pillows and blankets in the closet. The heater worked well and warmed up the room nicely while we went to dinner.
The hotel is old so the floors are not exactly level but it adds to the charm. This place is about 150 years old. It has seen many historic figures pass through its doors, most noteworthy for me was Mark Twain. He’s been my favorite author all my life. This hotel is in the heart of Placerville and easy to walk the cute historic Main Street and close to lots of restaurants and shops. It’s definitely worth the visit if you’re stopping over in Placerville. It’s been very well maintained and in great condition for its age. I most especially loved the elevator! It’s a piece of history all on its own!
