"Where do I begin? Perhaps at the beginning. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon the reception was locked and dark. We wandered around the side of the building to rest and have a snack before trying to figure out what to do next. "There were 2 families traveling (1 family of 3 and the other was us, a couple) this was our 4th trip to Matera and 1st for our friends (family of 3). I booked this hotel because, the place we normally stay was not available. If you are reading this review, and are booking through Expedia, just know that a “standard” room is NOT cave lodging. The woman checking us in (I’m sorry that I don’t have her name) upgraded our friends to a luxury deluxe suite. I was very happy about this because I wanted this Matera experience for them. Everything else was perfect and would stay again but I’ll make sure that I’m staying in a cave room."
