Upon arrival, we were informed at check-in with two infants in tow, that there was no power in the building. This was the first time we were made aware of the situation. There had been no prior notice or communication, which left us completely unprepared.
With all nearby hotels fully booked, we had no choice but to stay in an uncomfortably hot room with two babies. We had to repeatedly go down to the lobby to get their milk because we had no fridge, which added to an already stressful situation. Breakfast the next morning was very limited, and to make matters worse, staff refused to provide bottled water even knowing how difficult the conditions were for all guest, especially those with infants.
While I understand the outage was due to a natural phenomenon, the lack of communication and poor contingency planning were unacceptable. There was no internet access, but phone lines were working yet no effort was made to notify guests in advance so we could make alternative arrangements.
Had we not been traveling with infants, we might have preferred sleeping in the car. This was one of the worst travel experiences I’ve had, made even more difficult by the lack of support and empathy from staff.
I hope you take this feedback seriously and implement stronger emergency protocols and guest communication going forward.
