"It's an old hotel with history and character. The staff are excellent: polite and helpful.
There's a lift to all floors, but still some stairs to some rooms.
The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. The electrical wiring seems old, but everything works. There's no air conditioning. You can hear the station, especially at the back. Tea and coffee are in the room (but no milk or creamer). Some sound bleeds from the room next door.
It has a grand entrance and is ideally situated for the Centre...
"Located a just outside the city centre. Use the Q3 bus outside the hotel or the metro which is a little walk away. Room was clean and had everything you needed.
Situated near a major supermarket, popular coffee shop and loads of eateries.
Reasons for giving it 4 stars.
1. No lift and I was on the top floor with a heavy suitcase.
2. Had to pay £2 for luggage storage."

In the bedroom, three of four pillows on the bed had brown marks on them; the dressing table chair had a long brown streaky stain on it (looked like 💩) and in the bathroom, there was no rubber seal on the bottom of the glass shower screen, so water poured out onto the floor when showering. Other minor cosmetic issues included missing tiles under the bathroom sink, and scuffs on...
"The Carlton is in the process of being renovated. The alternative accommodation across the road was an excellent replacement. Very well presented, clean funky and functional more than adequate for a brief visit. Right in the heart of Jesmond,"
