"The Occidental Lodge is a very charming, old-school lodge that is well-maintained and absolutely spotless. "What a pleasant surprise!! Beautiful part of the California Coast and we had a whole cottage to ourselves with an ocean view! They could use a Wi-Fi extender.. that's the only criticism."

"We stayed in the sparrow room. It was incredibly small and filthy. The room was caked in dust and smelled of cigarettes. The temperature regulation was also difficult - we opened the windows to air out the room. However, the windows did not have screens, so the open windows allowed bugs to enter. Madeira House operates much more like an AirBnB than a hotel. There is a contactless check in process without onsite staff. There are also multiple steps of steep stairs that lead from the road...
