Beautiful location and great staff

We were on a house hunting trip - Beautiful location, gorgeous hotel, fantastic staff. Bed was a little uncomfortable though and the scrambled eggs at breakfast weren't the best 😉

Never revisit a hotel you loved!

We visited this hotel a few years ago and sadly it has lost a lot of its ‘feel’. Then, there was a very traditional and beautiful bar, which is now modern and could be in any location/country. Reception is now quite isolated from guests so you don’t enjoy any interaction with staff as you come and go. In general the hotel room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was good and not overly expensive but overall it’s just missing that something extra to make you want to go back - apart from the location in the beautiful Monchique!

We stayed for four nights in a Prestige room, located in building number 3. We had a lovely large room overlooking the resorts' tree bounded square, charming in its simplicity and very quiet. The pool and gardens were lovely, with plenty of sunbeds available. Pool towels were readily available at the hotel reception. The staff on reception and restaurant were pleasant but did not make any effort to enhance our experience. No tourist information and little no local knowledge. We did not dine at the hotel restaurant, but did have our breakfast every day. The food served at breakfast was varied, well presented and plentiful. However, we felt the breakfast service was understaffed and consequently they were under such pressure to deliver breakfast that the experience was spoiled for the hotel customers. On one day only one person was available to both restock the breakfast and clear/reset tables, the tables did not get cleared!!

Very beautiful hotel in beautiful Mountain area. Service was awesome. Staff very friendly. Elevator was out of order, but staff helped with luggage. In room phone was not working, had to walk down to reception to request help with luggage. I needed an iron. Had to walk down to get it. On our 1 week cross- Portugal trip we learnt that amenities like toothbrush/ tooth paste , body lotion, iron in room are not of standard amenities in the hotels. Breakfast was included, though hotel.com mentioned that we would be charged. Enjoyed our breakfast. Huge variety. However, coffee is provided only via a machine which lets you choose what kind of coffee( espresso, cappuccino, black/ latte) but taste was awful. It’s better to have tea. All in all we still enjoyed our stay.

Monchique experience

Place is nice and relaxed . Missing more stuff to provide massages at spa and also some machines to buy water or snacks after closing hours . Otherwise all perfect and def finely come back

Good holiday

Reception was adequate. Lift was out of order. Fridge in room was broken but housekeeping sorted a new one for us. Telephone in room didn't work. Shower screen had been removed so having a shower soaked the floor. Overall, the room was good with much needed a/c. Breakfasts were the highlight - excellent fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, toast and pastries, coffee and fruit juice. Didn't eat at the restaurant as it seemed too quiet and a bit over-priced. The "village" is delightful with a couple of shops, a bar, a huge outside seating area and a pathway up to the water spring. The swimming pool and surrounding area was OK but it was dominated by guests from the spa who were constantly chatting loudly on their mobiles and taking hundreds of selfies. Parking was easy - we parked (free) every day just outside the hotel. A great place to stay for a week so long as you have a car. No good for people who have mobility issues.

It was OK, everything is stuck in the 70’s. The buffet dinner and breakfast were great, and we had a jazz pianist over dinner which was awesome. We walked down to the thermal pools €20pp extra, and they looked very uninviting, so we swam in the outdoor pool. I would not recommend and wouldn’t go again

Welcome to resort was great. Unfortunately there were too many steps to the pool to negotiate. Dinner was a buffet with limited choice but was very good. Mix up over what was booked and paid for resulted in us being presented with a bill for dinner in the restaurant which was unfortunate. Eventually restaurant manager agreed to sort out with reception. Good breakfast with lots of choice.

The place is beautiful. Breakfast buffet is plentiful and tasty. I would have given it a 5 but when I called before booking I was told they have spa services available upon request. I told them we wanted massages and treatments and I was told just give 24 hour notice. For this reason only I booked the place and drove 45 minutes to beach every morning and then back to beach in the evening. When I arrived I was told no services are available until after August 8th. For this I would have stayed on the beach and not wasted time and gas. Before arriving I also asked for two beds, We arrived to one bes. The lady was very kind and gave me two beds but the room STUNK. The next morning I made then aware that the AC unit is not functioning properly and wreaks of fungus and stool. Nothing was done about this, we had to sweat all night long and I mean sweat, miserable sleep. I was so tired I slept all the way back to Lisbon in the car. The pool is great but no towels and no chairs. Obligated to sit on concrete until someone left. I absolutely love the outdoors. Being from South America I am use to these resorts and when they get it tight, its a perfect stay. I would have loved some spa treatments since I work very hard and really needed that downtime. If they fix those things the resort is a perfect 5. They also need a small vending machine for when you are starving at night. The refrigerator and safe nonfunctional. Due to the stench of fungus we had to leave suitcases in car.
