Everything was excellent about this hostel. It was my first time ever staying in a hostel, so I wasn't sure what to expect but the staff is friendly, the check in and check out policies are easy, the rooms are modern, there are many fun amenities including social events for guests to get to know the staff and one another, the facilities are clean, and the location is downtown Mexico City about a 30 minute walk away from major locations like the Museo de Bellas Artes, the square near the Presidental House, etc. Fares are cheap, so if you are thinking about Barrio Downtown, don't hesitate!
Felt completely safe and what you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. Very up to date. I liked that the storage for your items was within your space.
Enjoyed my stay, the hostel is clean and comfortable with good service, the guests are mixed age. The breakfast was ok with limited options. One improvement suggestion is organized hostel activities can be better with more variety of experiences.
The box beds are great, really secure. They also have lots of daily walking tours and activities. The main downside is you need the window open and the street is noisy. This didn’t bother me but if you need quiet, this wouldn’t be it. I loved my stay and would love to go back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as Hostel Barrio. First off the location is unbeatable. Perfect spot in the Historical Center but also easily accessible to other neighborhoods. Not to mention a small convenience store next door and pharmacy right across the street. The hostel itself is gorgeous with lots of fun decorations. Rooms are everything you need, facilities are always sparkling clean, staff are tremendously friendly. Icing on the cake is the terrace bar and then rooftop green area. If you are coming to CDMX stay here!!!!!
Really nice place, decorations were awesome and even though the rooms are small, they’re sooo confortable, organized and clean!
The bar is nice and staff is very friendly! Recommend 💯
Hostal Barrio - I have stayed at for some time - it is very very very clean - very very very safe compared to all other hostels I have tried in CDMX - you will feel like you are at home - like your second home - BC the staff is very loving and kind and really care about their guests. Love Y'all !!!! My Best friends !!! And God Bless Hostal Barrio.
Very clean and nice facilities - but the social aspect of the hostel was really disappointing, and often times the tours and activities were cancelled because just 1 person wanted to go. Not much of a social environment and more like a hotel.
It was a great experience to stay at this hostel! Very clean and very well maintained. Although if you get a room with a window it will be a bit noisy outside since it’s downtown and it can get very very cold during the winter at night. I asked for extra 5 blankets 😅
Staff is very nice and there’s always security around. Will be back soon!
A really good and very clean hostel in downtown (Centro Historico) Mexico city. A well-organized personal cube that has a small wardrobe with 2 hangers (my carry-n suitcase fit there perfectly!), 2 USB sockets and one regular socket, 2 shelves for personal items and even a safe. A good mattress, pillow, and blanket. Nice big towel. The cube could be locked with a key. The room is also locked with a card.
The breakfasts were served on time and were really good (some fruits, chiliquiles, yogurt, granola, coffee, orange juice, toasts). Having a breakfast on the patio upstairs was really enjoyable.
The bathroom for men and women were separate, and the showers were nice and clean. Hot water, even had shampoo and shower gel there.
The bathrooms are also equipped with hair dryers.
There usually are parties and activies on a patio/roof every evening, so be prepared for noise. The hostel is also located on the main street, so it can be noisy during the day, too.
Their WhatsApp group is beyond anything.
Overall, I would stay again.
I stayed in a mixed-gender box bed room, with 8 box beds. The closing and locking doors on all the box beds was very much like a capsule hotel. I liked the small closet for clothes and bags in each box, and the safe, which was large enough to fit my Macbook, though i didnt feel the need to use it. The hostel seems quite newly remodeled. The bathrooms, rooms, and community spaces were quite clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, some spoke english, some did not, but it was not a problem for me, even though my spanish is not good. i felt comfortable walking around by myself (solo woman) to nearby landmarks, stores, restaurants. I was working while staying 5 nights, and never had a problem with the wifi. The work area is also quiet, clean, comfortable. The Whatsapp group makes it very easy to meet other travelers and join hostel events(i enjoyed the Lucha Libre event). They also arranged a driver to pick me up from the airport, which was greatly appreciated; the airport taxi/uber area is quite hectic at the airport. (Note that they will request you download Whatsap, but Hotels.com eliminates this in the mesage, idk why) My only complaint was the noise in the rooms: the road noise at night is loud, the speaker shop next door is very loud (though they generally dont play music late at night or early). I slept with headphones in and white noise playing, otherwise i dont think i wouldve been able to sleep. Otherwise, a very nice place, a very enjoyable stay.
