We had a balcony room overlooking a canal in the heart of the city. It was perfect.

The bar below this hotel plays loud dance music until 4 am. If you don’t mind being kept awake all night then this may be for you. The room is dark with no lighting so who actually knows just how dirty it actually is but definitely early the settee should have a do not sit sign. The S and M mural on the wall was not mentioned in any of Expedia’s descriptions . Let’s just say I felt I was in the wrong Place at the wrong time for an expensive price! Leaves me wondering if I will ever book a hotel through Expedia ever again

The main benefit is the location, which is fantastic. The hotel bar is quite nice. The staff overall are lovely and helpful. The facilities are not as nice in person as the appear in the pictures and the room quality is inconsistent (but never poor). I was expecting a bit better but was satisfied overall.

A really unique property. The rooms were quite spacious and really interesting. The bar and restaurant downstairs were excellent with fantastic service. The reception staff weren’t the friendliest, but they answered my questions. The only downside of the hotel is that you can hear everything. I could hear everything going on outside, as well as the entire conversations of the room next door when they raised their voices the slightest volume. The bed was quite comfy, but it was hard to rest listening to the couple next door talk all night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Velvet Hotel. It was a great location- convenient to Piccadilly train station, lots of easy public parking around, and tons of fun bars right downstairs! Even though it is on a very lively street, we never heard any noise from it at night. Also very walkable to other great restaurants and nightlife in the North Quarter. Highly recommend for a stay in Manchester. Recommendations for restaurants and bars: Federal Cafe Bar, Mackie Mayor, Blockbusters NQ, Soho, The Millstone, Another Heart to Feed, Night Cap, Rudy's Pizza, Oscar's, O'Shea's, Pollen Bakery, The Brewers, and The Lost Dene. Also definitely check out The John Rylands Library, it was incredible!

A quaint little hotel within 5 minutes walking to Piccadilly station. Easy walk to coffee, food, and the trams. Clean rooms with comfortable king bed and big bathrooms. The only issue is I was unable to charge my laptop with adaptor, had to go buy a UK charger.

the level of the rooms are totally different. The balcony room to the front is cozy, designy and nice but loud in the evening becvause of the bars, the atic one on the 3rd floor to the backyard is rocked down but quite. no breakfast - only as room service.

Room was really spacious and nice. Only the water was hot at all for the shower. And the heating was straight coming on the face during sleep.

From the moment we walked in we were impressed by the aesthetics of the reception area. Very stylish yet felt homely and welcoming. Customer service was exceptional they helped us with the parking top tip part at the Qpark in Piccadilly place 5 min walk you can book in advance it’s safe and plenty of parking spaces. We were offered a glass of Prosecco neither of us drink so we declined but a nice touch . We were early but they checked and our room was available so we checked in super early which was great. Up in the lift to our room . We walked in and we both said wow !! Super plush and high tech and amazing big floor to ceiling windows lovely thick curtains with electric blinds . Building next door had scaffolding up but didn’t bother us at all and no building work noise. Bathroom had the most amazing rainforest type shower with high end luxury shampoo conditioner and shower gel with lovely fluffy bath robes and towels. Well stocked mini bar and snacks at reasonable price compared to other hotels I have stayed in. The lighting in the room was lovely with different modes that my other half loved playing with. Open style wardrobe which was great who needs to hide there clothes away . At the bottom of the bed a lovely velvet sofa which I found really comfortable. Iron and a hidden ironing board in the mirror and a hairdryer in the drawer . Basically we had the most wonderful weekend in possibly one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in !! We will be back !! Having stayed here previously and love this hotel I booked a Balcony room for a special occasion. The welcome from reception was quite cold, was informed at 3pm the room still wasn’t ready and on expressing disappointment it suddenly was and was informed they were short staffed. The tv didn’t work and had to ask for assistance which involved staff member having to come into the room and climb on the desk to try and get it on which thankfully she eventually managed to do. The ash tray on the balcony was full of cigarette ends and hadn’t been emptied from previous guests. The tea and coffee making facilities were very limited for a £200 pound a night room. The Bistro was closed which we weren’t aware of, may have missed the notification but the stay made me feel like I was an inconvenience rather than a welcome guest. Will probably think twice before returning.

There's no doubt that a lot of care had been taken to give The Velvet a premium feel and the little balcony was a lovely bonus. However there were a couple of things that were a bit lacking and one serious security issue. When w arrived we were told by the very nice woman at reception that the system had gone down and that she would need to unlock the room for us as the keycards weren't working just now. Fair enough. Half an hour later she arrived with the presumably working cards. It wasn't until the next day and several trips out and about that we realised that the door hadn't locked when we closed it behind us, leaving it available for anyone to nip in and grab anything of value! When we told reception they didn't seem at all worried or surprised but offered to lock it manually for us. Not re than a bit worrying. The room was lovely but there were some cobwebs and a helium balloon in the rafters from another guest. The pull cord on the heater for the balcony had also snapped and we had to stand on a chair to switch it on. All in all, despite the security issue and the other issues we had a pleasant stay but wouldn't return until these things were sorted.

What an amazing trip!
Everything from pre-arrival to checkout was fantastic. Any questions I had after booking prior to stay were responded to indicates and the staff were extremely helpful. The fact we were able to check in at 12pm which was before the stated time if 3pm was a great touch and on the morning of departure , we messaged reception to request an hour later check out which was granted. The room itself (Penthouse suite) was unreal and the arrival package I had requested for my partner was laid out just as I wanted it to be done. Best hotel room we have both ever had and great value. 100% will be staying again.

The hotel itself was ok. It was clean and comfortable but they have taken £88.70 from my card without my consent. I have raised it with them and I have been told it will take 7-10 days for them to refund me my money. Not good enough.

Location was spot on, so easy to find and get to from the station. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Checking was hassle free and we were offered a glass of fizz on arrival! Our room was amazing very clean and modern with views of the canal and at night it was really quiet. We popped into the hotel bar and lounge it was lovely, the decor twined with the hotel next door and the staff were super friendly and chatty. Would highly recommend I wouldn’t hesitate booking again.

Nice welcome, with glass of Prosecco, reception area nice. However, room was a bit tired. And most of all, absolutely freezing - don’t think the heating worked, and the weather was very cold! Maybe we just got a bad room, not sure why as it was a Tuesday night and can’t imagine it was fully booked - didn’t see any other guests.

Check in at reception and the staff dealing with us were great. Sadly the room wasn’t brilliant (room 14) with a constant smell of human waste as if there was a problem with the drains. We did report it and was told they’d look into it. Doesn’t help me at all but hopefully it’s sorted for the next people in there. We were also charged for items out of the snack bar which we didn’t have. Only a few quid but still shouldn’t have happened. I wouldn’t recommend and won’t be heading back.

Did not live up to expectations
Great location, however for the price of the balcony room per night I would have expected more. Room looked tired, with attention to detail lacking in several areas, toilet roll holder was broken, shower door didn’t fit properly and seal was broken so every time you had a shower the bathroom floor flooded, several loose fixtures and fittings, tired looking chipped paintwork, no sound proofing in the rooms meaning we could hear other guests talking, vomiting and having sex. There were no coat hooks and only 2 coat hangers, meaning very little room to hang anything. We rang down to ask for some fresh milk to make tea and it took the best part of an hour for it to be brought to our room. I have stayed in hotels costing a lot less than the Velvet and received a much higher standard of service, with more attention to detail to fixtures, fittings and overall experience. Very little reference paid to eco-friendliness either.

Thanks for your feedback. We are dissapointed that your stay fell short of your expectations. Our Signature Balcony Rooms are all individually designed in the style Velvet is known for, and were all recently refurbished. I will certainly share your feedback regarding the bathroom with the maintenance team so the neccesery corrective action can be taken to repair those minor inconveniences. All rooms are sound proofed in line with industry standards and we are always looking at ways to improve our sound proofing measures. Your feedback has given me the opportunity to speak with the neccesery head's of department to look at way's to imrpove guest experience. Thank you for your feedback and I hope your recent experience does not deter you from stay with us again in the future, do let us know if you decide to return and we will ensure you are well looked after.

Amazing
Everything about our stay was amazing. We were in room 403 and it was a serious wow!! The ceiling height is so dramatic and the black and grey colour of the walls and ceiling provided a cosy and contemporary feel. Everything was spotless and the quality of everything was superb, from the bathroom fittings to the bedding to the lovely robes. The separate bath felt so luxurious. The bed was huge and we both had the best sleep in ages. I can’t rave enough about this hotel and so highly recommend it!

The Velvet is very clean and today and the staff are very friendly. However, the layout of the room that we had was quite odd and the lavatory / shower room was quite small. Whilst we didn’t hear a huge amount of noise from the surrounding bars and clubs, there was a lot of noise within the hotel itself, especially with doors banging 24x7. Having some quiet closing hinges fitted would not be a bad idea. There was even one of these doors within the room to get to the lavatory, which was annoying overnight. It was very easy for people on the street to see up in to the room, a day curtain or blinds would be good to avoid having the black out curtains drawn all the time. Also be careful of the window frame as it is very easy to hit your head (which one of us did!).

We are currently exploring options for adding quiet closing hinges to our doors, and we are also considering adding day curtains or blinds to our rooms. We apologize that you found your room to be overlooked from the street. We will work on finding a solution to this issue, such as adding additional privacy film to the windows.
