I was genuinely looking forward to staying at Tribe Manchester Airport (as much as one can look forward to an airport hotel!). We usually stay at the Crowne Plaza but chose Tribe this time as it had only opened in October 2024 and looked new, modern, and well-designed. Sadly, the reality was a real disappointment. The car park was chaotic and felt like a construction site, with no clear signage to direct you to the hotel entrance. After finally finding our way in, we were greeted by several people smoking directly outside the front doors. Standing in the check-in queue with cigarette smoke drifting inside is not the first impression you want after a long journey - it was unpleasant and unwelcoming. I do want to single out the staff member who checked us in, Laidy, who was warm, helpful and professional. She was a genuine positive in an otherwise frustrating experience. The bar and restaurant were extremely crowded, which I appreciate was due to people arriving early ahead of the storm, but it added to the general sense of stress and lack of organisation. The room itself was the biggest let-down. For a hotel barely over a year old, the condition was shocking. There were scratches and dents in the paintwork and doorframe, marks all over the walls, and the bed headboard was chipped. It already felt tired and poorly maintained.
