On the plus size, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. On the downside, it’s an awkward area of town and they also didn’t communicate that you could order things for breakfast.

Friendly staff and the hotel is in an excellent location with shopping and dining options nearby. The staff met us at the train station to walk us to our hotel.

The location of the hotel was at the top of a very strenuous uphill hike. The hotel lobby did not look like the photos. The staff were lovely but not always at the desk when we needed them. They provided us with a fan when requested but the fan wasn't working. After having it fixed once, it broke down again and we made do without it. The bathroom is very small and you had to turn on the tap marked 'C' for hot water. Breakfast was a good spread. We learned from another review that we had to ask them for scrambled eggs which they then provided. Overall, the stay was just okay, but the people were lovely.

The hotel it self was actually pretty good. Let us store our luggage while we did Machu Picchu, Quite clean, constant hot water in shower, comfy bed, but speaking about the bed i think it was 2 doubles put together to make a “king” in the matrimonial room that also had a “mountain view” which was kinda blocked, you have to step out of the room to actually get the whole view. Breakfast option was nice too. Overall 4.5/5 rating from me. Would recommend if you want something slightly nicer that wont break the bank too much

This review is not for Hotel Retama, but for Golden Sunrise. We booked Retama, but apparently the two have a mutual agreement whereby if one is overbooked you are put in the other. Normally that would concern me, but Golden Sunrise was excellent. Off the noisy main area a few blocks, in a charming building with well-appointed rooms, a good breakfast, and wonderful staff. So again, I have no idea what Hote Retama is like, but their sister hotel Golden Sunrise is highly recommended.

Good budget property - clean, but way too much fragrance in the rooms. Simple but nice breakfast. This is a no frills hotel and for the price it was fair. Travelers on a budget should consider staying. Travelers with greater means can find nicer.
