The employees at San Carlo were friendly and welcoming. They were very helpful and went above and beyond to help us navigate a town when we didn't speak the language.

All the furniture and overall condition of the facility is below average. There is no Air conditioner in the rooms. Lugano is generally quite warm during summer months, the two nights we stayed at the facility were miserable. Breakfast is below average and no available at the time that was told to us. They were setting up breakfast 30 minutes after the time we were told breakfast will be ready. Overall avoid this place if you can.

It is right in the center of the historic part of town. Easy walking to city buses. A block from the lake. A special surprise was a horn quartets performance next door at an old church that echoed throughout the neighborhood.

Very central and easy to go anywhere. The staff is nice. However, the room is so very hot. The two fans were not sufficient to keep the room cool. The room temperature remained over 80 degree throughout the night. The room amenities were very minimal, only one hot water kettle and nothing else. In this super hot day and night, we could not even keep some cold drinks around,

It needs to be made clear when booking a single economy room that it has a share bathroom. You have to open the description of the hotel to find this. Please make it more clear and also on the reservation confirmation.

Our room: Having to share a toilet room was not bad but this was NOT a hotel room - it was like a hostel room. For the price I was shocked. Tiny room - Bed crammed in one corner, sink and shower on one wall, a table and chair and tv Plus cabinet. No amenities like a blow dryer - I was glad they had soap. No AC (they did have an overhead fan) which was okay but the noise from the city could be heard at night. Would not recommend for this price.

To have full private services, it would have been enough to book a Standard Double.The same goes for the Air Conditioning, in fact nowhere is it mentioned as one of the services made available by the Hotel.Having made these due clarifications, we apologize again for the inconvenience encountered and, at the same time, we take the opportunity to wish you a wonderful evening.Best regards,Team Hotel San Carlo

Terrible property, dirty, uncomfortable beds, very hard pillows and not accessible even though we called ahead of time to request an accessible room. They did not even have a shower chair. We were given a dining chair for the shower! Terrible customer service too.

Perfect location, new apt, best cost x benefit
It's mu second time staying at this hotel, booked a triple room, was travelling with ny wife and my mother. They gave us an upgrade to the apartment for a more comfortable stay at no additional cost, the place was clean and new, location is perfect and offer a fair breakfast. Only downside of the apartment is the Low Ceiling on the couple bedroom (top floor) but it worked well for us, best cost x benefit choice, when Im back in Lugano this is my place.

The lady at the reception was very nice and helpful. She was very welcoming and friendly. I booked the hotel in a very last minute and the person over the phone was very helpful and he arranged everything for me. Highly recommend this place.

Basic hotel with great location & stellar service
The room itself was pretty basic, with simple furniture and tile floors. But the service at the front desk was outstanding -- Sara got us checked in quickly and offered great advice about the town. The location is ideal, just a few steps off the main street, and easy to get to just about everything. Breakfast was simple. Not the most luxurious hotel, but a great location and friendly, helpful staff.

Happy with our stay
The hotel is well sited on the most popular pedestrian shopping street in Lugano and steps from the lakefront. We arrived from the railway station and wished we had taken the funicular to the lower city! We certainly did on the way back. We were greeted warmly at the front desk and told we had been upgraded to a suite - which was very nice, but it was separate from the rest of the hotel, further down the street. Very nice, but would have preferred to stay in the original hotel. The breakfast was excellent and more than generous. Overall, quite happy with our choice of the San Carlo in Lugano, and would recommend it, especially for travellers arriving and departing by train.

Thin Walls bu Excellent Staff
Friendly welcome and comfortable room. The walls are rather thin and one of our neighbours was watching TV until 3 in the morning. This was sorted out by the very helpful man on reception and all was peaceful for our second night. The hotel is ideally located in the heart of the town, one block back from the lakeside. A typical european breakfast is offered with ham, salami, cheese, hard boiled eggs, breads and cereals. Fruit juice and a coffee machine provide plentiful drinks

Great centrally located budget hotel
The owner and staff were AMAZING and super accommodating! They let me checkin at 3am and did not charge me for an extra night's stay. Very unexpected by the management and very kind. The hotel is the literal center of town and the COOP is next door along with other amenities. The funicular is 300M away to the train station. I had a budget room so I can only comment on that, so the room is adequate and the shared WC was very clean. When you book make sure you request a room with a full bathroom if that is what you want. There is a shower and sink in the room. The WiFi is adequate going from 7mb to 20mb in bursts. Recommended for location and service. Also the rooms appear to be getting renovated. My only comment was that the renovation work was loud during the days but that is only if you are in the hotel.

Great Location!
The service was excellent. The father and son proprietors were a great source of information about the city of Lugano. The hotel, though comfortable enough, was hard to sleep in. it was downtown, which was great for location, but not so good for noise. It's an older hotel, and hasn't been soundproofed. The noise didn't only come from outside the hotel - the walls let in noise from the hallway and adjoining rooms. Being close to the breakfast room, though convenient, made sleeping past 0700 difficult because of the noise. But, after deciding to use our earplugs the second night, we slept better. :) In spite of the noise, we greatly enjoyed ourselves there. Being close to the center of town is great for access to the cultural events, the water, and the public transportation was great, and again, the proprietors and the other staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient.

Walls are very thin and you can hear people talking in adjacent rooms. Also, our room was very small; maybe 15-18 inches between foot of bed and wall. Had to squeeze sideways to get to other side of room.

For the price and certainly the location this family friendly hotel l recommend; staff are welcoming and helpful as well. The rooms are slightly dated but charming, a little bit of paint here and there is peeling back but this reflects on the overall price.

Cute room, in a great location. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Coming into Lugano on the Bernina coach bus I realized how large the city is. Staying at the San Carlo gave us a small town feeling making us right at home. Just wish the breakfast was included.

Great Location good value for the money
Hotel is in a great location one block from the lake a close walk to the Lugano funicular to access the train station. The hotel is not fancy but the service was good and the location provided good value for the money. The front desk person Souvino (sp?) was very helpful upon checkout sort a billing question we had.

Für den Preis habe ich nicht viel erwartet. Die Wände waren aber so dünn, dass mal alles von aussen höre. Wir hatten das Zimmer gleich nebem dem Frühstück, somit war es am Morgen sehr laut.

Small room
Good location. A very small room. No view (a wall). No ac, but the fan was ok. Noice from the street on Saturday night. On Sunday morning at 8 and 10 worships in the church, you could hear it clearly into the room. No place other than expensive restaurants to buy snacks/food on a Sunday.
