The River Trent near Colwich, Staffordshire The valley here is wide and flat bottomed; the river meanders a lot, and flooding is frequent after prolonged rain. The view is from the towpath of the Trent and Mersey Canal. There has been little rain in the last few weeks, and the river is very low.

There was no hot water on the first night when we checked in at 9 p.m. The place warmed up quickly, but after a rainy day at CBeebies Land, we couldn’t take a shower. Thankfully, everything worked fine for the next two days.
