"We travel to appleby castle as often as possibly we luv the company of sally and her staff. It will be a shame for the castle to be sold its so relaxing and the staff are down to earth which is what we like as a group. "

"Clean and good facilities. We didn't see another person for the whole stay! It would have been helpful to have had instructions for the appliances and the heating! We could not find a way to turn it up beyond 17° so the lounge was quite cold! It would also have been helpful if the car park was a bit closer ( on the days it poured with rain). I would still recommend it as a good place to stay, as long as you don't mind washing up."

The pub itself is gorgeous, decorated beautifully, it is cosy and inviting and located in a lovely spot by the stream.Although the actual car park itself was small this was no problem as we parked literally a couple of minutes away on the lane, perfect as it allowed the opportunity to see a tiny red squirrel busy in a nearby tree. "Staff lovely. Bed comfy, sheets and towels clean. The room was ok but the shower room was full of black mould. In the room damp by the window. Really cold despite having a plug in heater. Expedia sold this as a stay with breakfast included, which it was not All in all disappointed. We have received a partial refund "

"It’s the perfect stay to stop just off the M6 when driving from Scotland to England. It’s a beautifully decorated pub, with lovely staff and excellent breakfast and dinner. This time our ferry was cancelled from Mull and so we had to change the booking at the last moment. They were understanding and there was no problem rolling over the booking until we could get off the island. We will be forever loyal to this wonderful stop just south of Penrith. "
