The Famous Star Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"The hotel is a lovely wee quirky hotel. The room was surprisingly large considering how narrow the hotel is! The bed was really comfortable. The Scottish breakfast was cooked to order, tasty and generous. Staff were lovely. Only thing to bear in mind is that the restaurant & bar donโt stay open late, so plan accordingly in the evening. Other really convenient aspect is that street parking is free."

"Great location, just off the A75 between Gretna (15miles) and Dumfries (10miles). Secluded to give some quite time away from the hussle and bussle of day to day. The hotel is finished to a very good standard and give you a feeling of staying in a property of excellence. Rooms are spacious, clean and inviting. Food avail in the restaurant and the bar - both serving good quality and value."

"Work visit and didn't arrive till 8ph. Very helpful young lady on Tuesday night. No food available in the evening but able to eat my chippy tea with a pint ;-) Very handy for work and great for local walks in the evening. Looking forward to being back next week."

"The Dumfries Holiday Inn was an overnight stay for us. The room was large and comfortable, and in the new part of the building. It was clean and functional and we had no complaints. The dinner was of a good standard, and the staff handled a change of order mid-way well. We had wine served in a slightly dirty glass, but that was dealt with promptly and with an apology and minimal fuss. The bar staff, waitress and waiter couldnโt have nicer. There was a suggestion made about a walk round the really interesting grounds of the university that the hotel sits in. The waitress knew about a map that reception had but the receptionist did not. That was sorted, so an early morning walk was taken and enjoyed. Breakfast was good and very much enjoyed. Check out was simple. A good hotel, that we would recommend and would stay at again."

"The Hill Hotel is located in a quiet location, but is only a 10-15 minute walk into the center of Dumfries. The building interior has been lovingly restored, and is very clean. The owners are very friendly and gave us lots of great advice about places to visit in the surrounding areas. A very good breakfast too! Highly recommended."

"Our room was big and very comfortable and the mini fridge with water and fresh milk was a nice touch. The shower door was a bit dodgy and needs looking at. Breakfast choice and quality was excellent and all cooked to order. Service was pleasant and efficient. We found a free parking space directly opposite the hotel and, even though it is on the main road through Moffat, we didn't find it noisy or too busy to cross the road. If you were there for long enough, it's worth noting that the Edinburgh bus leaves from outside the hotel making a day trip to the capital possible without using the car. We would use this hotel again if in the area."
