A lighthouse on a rocky island surrounded by calm sea.

South Stack Lighthouse

9.4/10 (121 reviews)
Old lighthouses are wonderfully romantic spots, with their inspiring views, lonely locations, and a powerful proximity to the elements. Lighthouses donโ€™t come much better than South Stackโ€™s which has stood proud since 1809. Not far from Holyhead, the largest town on the island of Anglesey and, these days, a busy ferry port, the lighthouse assists the passage of ships on the Dublinโ€“Holyheadโ€“Liverpool sea route, which crosses some famously stormy seas.

The Anchorage Hotel

8/10 Good
"Helpful and friendly host. Hotel has seen better days but new owner is working hard to bring hotel up to scratch and our family room was clean, comfortable and very spacious for a family of four. Tv reception was intermittent but we were only there for one night to catch the ferry so no bother. Continental breakfast was ok although the croissants didnโ€™t look very continental but the staff were lovely, offering to fill our water bottle for the journey. Beautiful views from breakfast room window. The hotel is in a great spot for scenic boardwalks in area. Good value and very convenient stopover for the ferry."

"We had a wonderful stay at Craig Eithin bed and breakfast. Dave and Debbie are marvellous hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them; there was such a selection for breakfast and the room was most comfortable and kept very clean. We would certainly recommend Craig Eithin either as a stop over while going to or returning from Ireland or just to have a few days away, which was the reason for us staying there."
