"Beautiful hotel and convenient location. Room had sea view. The property is well kept and maintained. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. The breakfast buffet had excellent food selections to choose from but pricy. The only thing I would recommend improving on were the quality and tastes of the dinner dishes. "We enjoyed our room and the facilities, including the

. However, we found the food was lacking in quality. Our room wasn't properly cleaned when we arrived (there was someone else's underwear on the floor and the mugs were not clean) and we had to ask the staff to clean it again. That being said, the staff were extremely helpful and kind. They definitely made the stay better. We apparently came during "off season" which made the whole area seem like a ghost town. We did find some good places...

"On the Golden Halong website, it states the hotel has a spa, gym, tour desk, room service and bar. It has none of these. The staff speak minimal english, making it difficult to ask for advice on local attractions, restaurants or shopping. The location is terrible, no where near the marina that all the tour boats operate out of. Breakfast is geared towards Chinese and if you want hot food you need to get there at 0630 hours when it opens, however, you then need to contend with all the tour...

"We had thre most memorable experience at all of the hotel's prior to arriving at Grang Halong hotel. Firstly the hotel seemed very deserted. They were working at less than less half their staff strength. Very dilapidated rooms and bad attitude of the staff. Breakfast was so bad that I have no words to explain. The food looked just. Very stale. I suggest rather sink on a junk boat in Halong bay then live on this ramshackled hotel."
