  • Buttle Lake is beautifully situated in the wilderness of Strathcona Provincial Park in the centre of Vancouver Island. When the water is low tree stumps of some areas of deforestation are uncovered. Whilst it is remote it is served by good roads which are required for logging transport. These roads are, mercifully, however very quiet. The campground is basic, pumped water & pit toilets, which in reality take it one stage from wild camping but that is as it should be in a remote area of natural beauty. Do not bother with your mobile phone here. Not a cat in hell's chance of a signal!! Great! #GreatOutdoors

The staff were really welcoming and helped me out when I needed some assistance with some Salmon that I caught. They made sure that the room was clean and were kind. The breakfast was also great and was an excellent start to the day. The coffee was great too!

Great Place to Stay!

This is a wonderful place to stay. So clean and quiet! The breakfast room is wonderful and the outdoor gazebo area and deck an added bonus. Staff are very accomodating. We understand an adjoining restaurant is planned which would really be awesome. We would definitely recommend.

lovely place to stay but bring your own blanket.

The place is cold, and I have to bring my blanket as the sheets are skinny. It is why I inadvertently took the TV remote - because It was in my blanket that I have to bring to sleep. The kitchen was also closed in the morning and I had to ask if I could get a cup of tea before I left at 8:30. Otherwise I love staying at this place. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

This is a great new option for staying in Gold River. The hotel is brand new, clean and well laid out. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very helpful - even filled our big water jugs for camping for us! The restaurant is still being built, but the dining room is lovely with windows all around and a wood burning stove for ambiance. The breakfast was a usual “breakfast included” continental spread with a waffle maker and even gluten free bread. The landscaping is still in the works and they are building a welcome and cultural center next door but our stay was very quiet (no construction noise). A great option for a luxurious night’s sleep before an outdoor adventure in Gold River!
