"The neighborhood is lovely. I took the walking trail next to the high school and the golf course to the portobello seaside each evening for the sunset. There's a delicious little takeout breakfast spot about 5 minute walk away called cafe 42. I had a breakfast wrap with haggis on my last morning. Definitely check out some restaurants and pubs down in portobello - Dougal's has an open folk music jam on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. If need be it only takes a little under a half hour on the bus to get to the city center."

"Initially was assigned a very small room in the eaves, not the “classic double” as advertised. Staff were very helpful and allowed me to upgrade for a reasonable price. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant menu very good, with excellent service throughout. The house itself is impressive but rooms and common areas are frankly knackered. Greasy marks around switches, peeling, chipped wallpaper and broken furniture throughout. I paid to upgrade to the “royal suite”, in order to get a desk and mirror, but it was just a very large room, not a suite, and with none of the expected facilities you would get with a suite (fridge, minibar, writing materials etc). Grounds are brilliant however and the shortcomings of the building were made up by the excellent food and high standard of customer service."
