"This hotel was FANTASTIC. All the staff were so welcoming and friendly. The location is perfect and the breakfast works class. I engaged with all the staff I met including Nelly the cleaner who inspired me to write this poem. I watched her clean outside as a gentleman was carefully watering every plant:
Nelly’s Place
A wiry man tends the plants of the Central Hotel
With a twisted green hose in his hand
Meticulous in the placement of the water
A cameraman struggles with his tripod
As he enters and to his assistance
A stranger passes by and helps
Acknowledged with a tender placement
Of the hand on the shoulder
And here comes blond Nelly
Looking for handprints on the glass doors
She spots a spill on the hose man’s
Plant pots and deals with it
Immediately
And then a coffee cup , almost in the street
Catches her eye but not mine
As I watch her take my coffee cup in
I walk back to my room
And she smiles
My name is Nelly and what’s yours
It’s Michael , and I love your city
A city that washes over you at any time of day
Pristine streets and careful drivers
Patient pedestrians and always something to catch the eye.
And quiet , oh so quiet
Where people are but silent shadows
Amongst the inspiration of the cascades
And criss- crossing its many ‘ Pushkin’ streets
In quiet appreciation
It seems
Of a city that still has the spirit
It had some three thousand years ago .
Yerevan is not just a city; it is a living Memory carved in pink stone with
Mount A"
