The room occupied was on par for the standard of the hotel, albeit the slope of the floor in the shower made you feel as though you might tumble out of the shower. The restaurant felt somewhat cramped with tables sited at both ground level and on raised platforms, which gave the impression of either looking down on other diners or being watched. "Let’s get the negatives out of the way - breakfast quality was dubious - not sure how they made scrambled eggs and cramped buffet area. The hotel is, of course, a Victorian railway hotel. The front windows need a clean. This is our second visit. Rooms are good. Would I rush back??? Probably not, but central location is a positive and parking (albeit at cost). The instructions if you are parking a car should be in capitals. THE PARKING ENTRANCE LOOKS LIKE A TAXI/STATION ENTRANCE. If you miss you...

"Excellent hotel . Our room was spacious, clean and had the benefit of air conditioning which was very welcome during this present heat wave. The lobby had an air of luxury and the gym was excellent. We found the staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. All in all we had a lovely 3 night break and will definitely be staying there again. Highly recommended."

"Prime location, great/clean rooms, comfortable beds. Friendly, helpful staff. The only surprise was the stairs to the room after we got off the elevator. If you have large/heavy luggage, and depending where your room is located, be prepared to hull your luggage. Also there are stairs within the unit (bedroom on lower level/bath on upper). Personally I liked this separation, but if you have mobility issues, let the staff know prior to booking your room. I would stay here again."

"A very nice hotel with facilities and right on the bank of the Tyne river. It was a very hot period and aircon excellent. However sitting outside overlooking the river at very run and rotten tables. My beer almost fell over as the hole was so big. Grass stumps were growing under the table. A little TLC was needed to make it nice to look over to a fabulous city. We loved our 3 night stay"

"Absolutely loved my stay, we stayed for 4 days, convention weekend and as a first stay the staff were absolutely brilliant, no complaints . they helped care for fragile items and always helpful with the room and needs. Especially Lauren and the Gent who helped us on our first night of stay (unfortunately we did not get his name) Above and beyond would love to stay here again even for a normal holiday thankyou!"

"It was close to the station. Oddly, there was no indication of where to find reception as you walked towards the hotel. We had to walk all the way around with heavy cases on a very hot day to discover the entrance. A simple sign would have helped. The room was pretty good. Breakfast adequate but not great. One teabag per person per day seems pretty mean as policy. Toilet paper ran out; we had to ask for more. Shouldn’t really have to…"
