Edgewater Inn and Suites, an Ascend Collection Hotel
8/10 Good
"The location of the Inn is great, it has some distance from the busy highway 101, tucked in nicely with Safeway and Fred Meyers around, providing nice view of waters (but it is not ocean view). It was nice and quiet for a good night sleep. Two things: it does NOT have two layered curtains, which I would have liked to have for lights into the room with privacy. The Inn also does NOT offer breakfast, which was surprising because I have been on the road trip with different towns and different inns/motels within the same price range: all others provided breakfast."
"The staff seemed to be doing what they could with what they have. However, the owners need to invest in maintenance. I'm not even thinking about upgrades; that would be nice, but basic repair and maintenance needs to be done first. Our room had a terrible musty smell. I could see staining on the ceiling and evidence of roof leaking at some point. This was confirmed by a staff member. I have bought several old homes over the years and am familiar with indicators and concerns of water damage (as I have spent a lot of time following around home inspectors and repair persons over the years). These rooms should not be rented to anyone until repairs have been completed and mold remediation has been completed and an official inspection has been done post repair. There were a lot of little things that were concerning, such as bathroom fan only working sporatically, etc. However, it was the idea of breathing mold that I found most troubling. This used to be a nice motel and has the bones to be updated to be nice again."
"The room looked like a crappy apartment. The walls were all patched with different colored paint. The bedding looked like and smelled like it was from my grandma’s house. The sheets were very wrinkled, couldn’t be sure they had been changed before we got there. The dresser was dirty/gritty.
The shower was fine. They only had Roku TV so we couldn’t watch basic television, and there was something wrong with the connection so the sound on every channel was static-y. I’m being extra critical because I paid $205 for this"
"The staff was so friendly and helpful, hot tub was nice and hot, ground are beautiful and well maintaned, and the rooms were very nice. I would definetely recommend booking this location!"
"This hotel utilizes illegal, deceptive fees. They were going to charge me an "amenities fee" when I checked in, without telling me, after the room had already been paid for.
They sent me a link to fill out their "Registration Card" where they wanted photos of my ID, credit card info, and to sign their policies (no mention of any required amenities fees). There's no front desk staff on site - had to call their main office in San Diego and they were very unhelpful and misleading. When I called, the woman on the phone said I had an open balance (I hadn't even checked in), and that was why they needed my card number, otherwise I would've had no idea. I asked the company for a copy of their policies, and surprise, there is no required "amenities fees" anywhere in them. No one could tell me how they calculate it. Staff tried to tell me the amenities fee was part of the taxes... obviously incorrect. No where did it outline the amount of the amenities fee in writing, so I wouldn't have known about that charge until after they ran my card without approval. They also refused to give me access to the room when I asked if I could give my card info over the phone, instead of through this weird link.
Their only advertised amenities are “free” wifi and parking, certainly nothing to write home about, but want to charge extra when you show up.
Shady company, don't book here
I've reported them to the FTC, clearly goes against the Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees, 16 C.F.R. Part 464"
