"We've stayed at The Academy Hotel over a dozen times in the past (usually for two-day visits with family) but this stay was our last. No single event led to this decision. It's just that the hotel desperately needs a major update: carpets are badly worn and appear dirty, the blinds in our room were torn and falling apart, the restaurant was closed by 9:15 for breakfast and wasn't open at all in the early evening - and the ambiance just seems dark and gloomy. The positives were: 1) the front-desk staff were very friendly and check-in was easy, 2) there's plenty of parking and 3) the pool (which we don't use) seems to be popular with kids. We've witnessed a general decline in the overall condition of this property during our most recent visits and have chosen to ignore them; however, it really doesn't feel good to stay at The Academy Hotel any more."
