Top Castleton Hotel Reviews

Palace Hotel & Spa Buxton

Palace Hotel & Spa Buxton

8/10 Good
"By far the staff team is the best thing about this hotel - friendly, helpful and attentive in just the right degree - advice: tip in cash - any tips added to a card bill do not get to the staff. Rooms: spacious, comfortable and spotless - a bit dated but hey, it's a classic building. Public areas: plush elegance - again a bit dated but comfortable and spacious although the position of the overly small bar causes problems getting to the restaurant at busy times. Restaurant: This was the big let down in terms of quality of food at dinner - both meals were overcooked and dried out - a pity because the restaurant is very well appointed and staff excellent. Breakfast was a little better but with tables too close to buffet (hot and cold), it was difficult to access and there are definite potential hazards. Parking: Additional charge of ยฃ5 per 24 hours is a bit if a scam (a lot of hotels seem to do this nowadays), especially having paid ยฃ326 for two rooms for one night B&B. Would stay again but would eat elsewhere."

Radisson Blu Hotel, Sheffield

10/10 Excellent
"One of the best hotel stays I`ve had in a long time and I travel often as I really enjoy hotel breaks. The renovation work done on this building in create the hotel is outstanding and flawless. My room was very large, light & airy, great air con for a heatwave!!. Room very clean and well maintained. I had originally booked a room with bath as this is my preference, initially given room with shower only, but I went to reception and they changed my room straight away, no fuss, prompt action. Location in in the heart of the city centre, all city centre amenities within walking distance."

"This is well-situated hotel close to the city centre. The staff were friendly, flexible and efficient. I had to delay my checkout for an hour and staff were most amenable. Iโ€™ve had better breakfasts but overall, I had a positive experience and will likely rebook the next time I am staying in Sheffield. Lastly, the hotel has a relationship with the car parking facility across the road and I paid ยฃ24 for two days and two nights. Big thumbs up."

"Very good new hotel. Good rooms and hotel areas. Unfortunately breakfast quality needs a little attention. Bacon over cooked too long under service heat and dried, similar for fried eggs and had to request. Ladies working breakfast service very good and helpful. Did not see anyone from kitchen keeping watch and stocking breakfast buffet which was surprising for such a good hotel"

Old Hall Hotel

"Visiting Gilbert and Sullivan Festival at Opera House across the Square. Ideal location for this visit. On payment of parking permit fee able to park in front of hotel for 24 hours. This permit made the afternoon walk around Buxton and the morning shopping trip much easier. The location of the hotel is perfect for any visit to Buxton. The hotel appears tired in decor but the room was pleasing and well appointed. The bathroom up a small flight of stairs was extremely well planned and a delight to use. The bathroom contained both a shower and a free standing bath. We had a very comfortable nights sleep and felt much refreshed the next morning. The breakfast is self service buffet style and the trick is to arrive as the bacon etc is being replenished. All in all an satisfying overnight stay."

"Most of the hotel was in good shape, but our room (321) had a mildew smell and there was rust and mold/mildew in the bathroom, especially around the bottom of the door where it hinges. We loved the dining and lounge area, and found the staff to be very helpful. Breakfast was a little confusing and disorganized; for such a busy time it was clear that more staff should have been working. We liked the location and general ambience."
