I really enjoyed my stay at Santuario! I stayed in a female dorm. The dorm was nice and big, good locker-option, bathroom was good and clean. I liked the small “room” you’d get, not a tiny capsule as you could’ve feared. AC works well, breakfast is a good way to sit down with fellow travellers, and the Getsemaní-neighbourhood is such a good spot to stay with restaurants and bars close by, and an easy walk to the Walled City.
It was literally the best location ever. Not only was it the cheapest accommodation in the area, it was also walking distance to every attraction and tour centers. Every single one of the tours you book will most likely have pick up in Getsemani centro which is a 12 min walk away from the hostel. You are also 14 min walking distance away from the ocean (has rough waves at this sight so I would not recommend swimming in it). It is a 35 min walk (or 10 min drive) to Bocagrande beach which is swimmable.
The breakfast was good, but it was the same everyday. It was really good tho. A full bowl of fresh fruit, eggs, toast, Butter and jelly. The bathroom was always clean, the rooms were well air conditioned and spacey. I really liked my own private space for my bed as it has curtains. And the staff were always soooo sweet, welcoming and helpful. I would definitely do it again. And the right across the street there’s a great spot to watch the sunset admist the large river. It’s absolutely gorgeous!! Overall this location is truly a gem.
I really enjoyed my stay at Santuario Getsemaní Hostel. The mixed dorms were the most private I have experiances yet with walls on behind you and to either side and an adjustable blind at the front. Each bed has a small lock box inside for valuables, shelves and your own plug socket and light, it felt more like a room than being in a mixed dorm honestly. The room had an AC and fan as well which made my nights very comfortable.
Lucia, Mir, Cat and William were very friendly and helped me out with getting involved in activities, organize future transport and make the most of my time in Cartagena.
The hostel is also a short walk from cafes, resteraunts and bars/clubs for those looking to enjoy the amazing nightlife, street food or vibrant colours inside the walls.
I would highly recommend this hostel.
Pros: kitchen was well-equipped, the salsa class on Thursday was so fun (!!), hostel felt secure and people (both staff and travellers) were warm and friendly, felt completely fine walking to and from the hostel at night even though it’s right on the edge of Getsemaní & the more tourist friendly historic centre. The one con: we got bedbugs from there. It happens when you travel, what can ya do! If that is something that is a big no for you, keep that in mind. If not, wash your clothes & shoes and throw them in the dryer at your next spot and you’ll be good :)

Cheap place to stay, but can be noisy
People that came in and out of the room had no regard for others with their loud talking and laughing even though signs were posted to be quiet in the sleeping area. The in room bathroom/shower was out of service for a day. The ones outside of the room had no functioning locks. I found another place to stay and left.
Dirty place, found a cockroach in my locker, looks nothing like the picture, no hot water and staff was a bit grumpy, sleeping on the floor would feel the same. Hotel area feels like a sauna inside and you need to bring your own towels because they charge for that too.
Only good thing was the breakfast…
The tour recommended by the hostel was TERRIBLE, bad food and confusing information, it was supposed to be a safe option but we got charged extra in every tour when we got there.
It was very disappointing…if you can find somewhere else to go, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The hostal needs to do something about mosquitoes. You can’t stay still for a minute, they are everywhere!! I arrived at night and the following morning I wanted to go jogging along the muralla but as soon as I step outside the hostal I suffer harassment by men on the street. The area around the hostel is dirty and smells really bad.
I love the how clean they keep the rooms and bathrooms, the property has a small open area but is very relaxing. The "pod beds" are nice a private if you only need a place to sleep as you can't stand if you want to change clothes in there but it definitely works.
The only downside is if you need to take an early flight (3 am for example) and want to shower, you need to keep in mind it is going to be a cold shower.
Other than that the hostel is great, the personnel is friendly, the location is great as is one block away from main restaurants and clubs in the Getsemani area and around 10-15 mins walking distance from the clock tower which gives you access to the old city.

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Rooms have very limited space and the washrooms are not kept clean…
Some of the staff has terrible customer service.
Air conditioning drains so much water that the room is flooded at some point and they don’t take care of it. They turn it on at 6 pm and off at 6 am. I think it’s todo Chili’s because the heat there can be so overwhelming due to the quantity of people that are fitted in the same room (aprox 10 ppl).
Breakfast is very basic but it’s okay. Noisy area with so many chivas driving around with loud music.
Ok for a couple of nights but would not stay here again.
I would stay away if you wanna avoid having bed bugs. The Bed / Pod was not very clean on the first sight and after I had a bad experience I felt like I need to check the bed and there where some black spots and when I tried to get one removed some blood stain left. That was the sign for me that they have bed bugs there which I later also read in some reviews at another portal. I told the lady at the reception about and that I wont stay there. She was very nice but told me if I wanna have my money back I need to get it back from Hotels.com because I paid in advance. Not sure if that will work out.
Hostel Cons:
the hostel shuttle driver is a scammer, too hot/humid not to have a freezer to keep ice (workers have ice not guests) and a refrigerator that actually cool (2 would be ideal), small sitting pool need a covering, run the A/C consistently (not everyone will sleep at night on a vacation), the bar is poorly managed & guest tabs are incorrectly and poorly managed, no way to warm food or cook food-knives are locked, an electric kettle and toaster would be great, no basic/seasoning or condiments, no towels given or offered as advertised, need covering for outdoor patio to protect from falling coconuts, rain etc, only place to hangout/socialize, 2 tvs & nothing playing on them, sitting pool needs a covering bc its hot & refreshing, hostel is not soundproof like advertised, 1 refrigerator shared by workers & guests, cant bring your own alcohol of personal liking, no prices for drinks, breakfast, & activities offered posted, no effective mosquitoes treatment for the only place to sit & socialize, inadequate COP for making change when needed...
Hostel Pros:
1 WhatsApp, privacy (blinds), Plenty of staff, friendly and hard working, Clean, WiFi is excellent, daily activities for fee, ping pong table & games, workstation table, Good music, Bar & happy hour (inflated prices), Small sitting Pool, Breakfast for a fee, multiple toilets/showers,sizable outside sink, cool outdoor vibe, plenty electrical outlets & lighting, fruit/mink water,,,
