Marlborough Hotel

8/10 Good
"Clean and safe, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Very convenient for the station, the river walk, and the centre. Many pubs, restaurants, and cafes in walking distance. However amenities were a little lacking, even for the price. I stayed for two nights, first in a 3-person family room and then in a single with shared bathroom. The WiFi was patchy in the first room and didnโ€™t always reach my room, and there was no bedside lamp or way of switching off the main light from the bed in the second, so it was very inconvenient to read in bed. The toilet was very close to my room and free whenever I needed to use it but there was no hook or shelf for my towel and toiletries (no sink in my room) and no hand towel. The shower was just a closet in the corridor with a shower inside, just one hook on the door and no dry place to change or store clothes, so presumably if Iโ€™d had a shower I would have had to go to and from my room in a towel. For this reason I didnโ€™t use the shower. There was also no shelf in the shower for toiletries, just a small holder for shampoo or something. I think it was probably designed by a man who uses all-in-one shower gel/shampoo, lol. Iโ€™d stay again because the price is good but probably not for more than a night in the shared bathroom single room because of the shower situation. Iโ€™d suggest to the hotel that they could make a few small changes (hooks and a shelf in the shared toilet, bedside reading lights, another extension for the WiFi)"

"We only stayed one night, so didnโ€™t really have time to use e.g the bar & didnโ€™t have dinner there. But that said, we were able to park - it was an extra cost of ยฃ6 not included in the booking cost. The room was nice, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a tad tired, with a bit of crack in the top of bath rim; but it was perfectly usable. Breakfast was nice, the lady serving was informative and friendly. The gentleman on reception was again informative and pleasant. The hotel is well placed for walking into the city centre."
