"It does take about an hour of a cramped and winding busride to get to the hotel from Odawara Station, but on the other hand the bus stops right by the hotel, and once you're here you're just across the street from Togendai where both the famous ropeway and pirate ships start their tours.
The hotel has a luxurious feel to it with the foot bath overlooking the lake by the lobby and the rooms feeling pretty spacious, especially the ones with a private tub on the balcony which is 10/10.
The baths are great, though they aren't the hottest we've tried on our trip, they come in so many versions with both silky bath and outdoor pools where the view varies between morning and afternoon when men and women switch sides. Tattoos are allowed if you cover them up, and the hotel sells covers on the lobby if you forgot them.
In some places the hotel is starting to show its age which made me sad, but it still feels like the staff cares about making your stay as perfect as possible with how smooth everything runs.
We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel every day and enjoyed both, there's a good mix of Japanese and western food so everyone can find what they're looking for - be that natto or croissants."
YuYu Hakone - Private Open Air Onsen Usage Guaranteed
10/10 Excellent
"Bus stop right out front and convenient to the ropeway stop. Beat the crowds and go clockwise (ship, ropeway, then cable car). Black eggs stop worth it. Need cash if not using the H or K buses. Hakone pass was worth it as it covered the ferry, ropeway, cable car and H and K busses.
The private onsen was really good after a day out. You book it for an hour and is included in your booking.
Room #1 has its own shower, others use the onsen showers."
"LOVED our stay here! Initially when we were looking into booking, we thought it was expensive but figured... Why not, it's our honeymoon and who knows if we'll ever get another opportunity to book something like this. Honestly... Worth every penny!! We booked the room with the private onsen and it was wonderful. The onsen itself was really nice to have after all the walking we did. We also had our breakfast and dinner included and it was delicious! Would recommend this place to others and would definitely come back! Staff was also so friendly and accommodating!"
"If you’re traveling to Hakone, this hotel offers a private in-room hot spring. I would highly recommend it to anybody who’s looking to relax. The room is large and spacious, and so is the bath and shower. It was truly a relaxing few days that I spent in Hakone."
"Very clean and organized hotel. They are very strick as to check-in time. Guest form a line to check-in at 3pm. They have a courtesy shuttle bus between train station to hotel . Also storage lockers at no charge are available. Excelent breakfast ."
"We stayed for 1 night. The hotel rooms was large and spacious; however dated. The breakfast buffet was delicious. We had dinner at the Japanese restaurant which was also delicious."
"Amazing! We stayed 2 nights to maximize our chances to see Mt Fuji. We saw it the day we arrived and the day we were leaving! It was truly magnificent. We loved sauna and the hot tub. Very relaxing. The room was huge! 2 balconies to observe Mt Fuji. Food was also delicious. We rented bikes and biked around the lake. 2 nights is a perfect amount to stay - 1 night I feel like would be too rushed and there’s not much to do for more than 2 days around the area."
