"The rooms themselves were great and the breakfast was delicious. However, there is a shared kitchen which is available to prepare any other meals…it is not in good condition at all and needs some serious TLC if the space is to be offered for guest use. For example the oven is FILTHY, the sink is perpetually full of used, dirty dishes and cutlery/crockery/glasses/cookware all need to be upgraded/replaced. "Check in was a problem they didn't know about my stay.... I had to email booking confirmation. Shower room is too tiny, only one bath towel. Air-conditioner not working... Breakfast setting is a joke 😭😭 juice is warm, their quality of is really disappointing.... The noise.... "This is the best place to stay in Pietermaritzburg! The location is perfect for anyone affiliated with the university - literally across the street. You can have breakfast and supper - both excellent - and the hosts are extremely hospitable and helpful. We arrived with a flat tire, and Gys helped us get a new car the next morning. I have seldom experienced a home away from home as warm and welcoming as Ridge on 79. "

"Rooms are clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The staff truly go above and beyond, paying attention to even the smallest details, which makes the stay feel extra special. And the breakfast? Absolutely incredible — a wide selection of fresh juices, fruit, freshly baked croissants, and cheeses that are simply to die for. Highly recommended!"

" We recently stayed at Gateside Guesthouse and had a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful, well-manicured gardens. It truly feels like a quiet sanctuary in the heart of Hilton. The Highlights: The Warm Welcome: A huge thank you to Magda and Mandy(helping with last minute sewing suppliesl! Their hospitality really sets this place apart. They are incredibly attentive, professional, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and well-cared for throughout our stay. The Rooms: Our room was spotlessly clean, spacious, and elegantly decorated. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the attention to detail made it feel like a true home away from home. The Setting: Relaxing on the patio overlooking the garden was a highlight. It’s the perfect spot for a morning coffee or a quiet sundowner. Whether you are visiting for a school event or just need a getaway in the mist-belt, Gateside is the place to be. We’ll definitely be back, thanks in large part to the fantastic service from the team! "

"Excellent unit with all amenities. A true home away from home and more. Staff are super attentive and ever obliging to assist to make your stay as comfortable and stress free as can be. Self catering units so you can prepare your own or they have an onsite restaurant/room service menu for the lazy days. Breakfast was superb with great options and well presented. The pleasure of having a “to go” option for early starts was really a blessing. The ambience and decor of the establishment was well thought of and blends in with the surrounding environment yet modern and attractive. Units are super clean and spacious. Location is perfect between Michaelhouse school and Nottingham road so makes travelling to either section a breeze. Once again a big thank you to the staff who made our stay so comfortable. We will most definitely be booking there again for our next visit to the area. Well done to all at the resort. "
