Nassau’s Straw Market is one of the largest of its kind in the world and a long-time favorite of cruise ship passengers. Up to 500 vendors sell a diverse selection of items, ranging from handmade crafts to souvenir T-shirts. Negotiate for bargains as you browse the straw items and soak up the busy atmosphere.

The Bahamas may be known for their idyllic beaches and Caribbean culture, but the most popular attraction in the capital of Nassau is an 18th-century colonial staircase. Carved out of solid limestone by slaves, the Queen’s Staircase is still considered a great feat of architecture and construction. The stairs were created between 1793 and 1794 and were later named for Queen Victoria to acknowledge her 65 years of rule, honoring her for her drive to abolish slavery.

Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, is rich in colonial history, much of which is centered around three bright pink buildings in the center of the city’s Old Town. Thanks to their brilliant exterior, the Parliament House buildings in Nassau are some of the most recognizable structures in the nation.
