We were a family of six with one of the children on a wheelchair. I was a bit disappointed with their firm attitude upon arrival that the Ryokan was not barrier-free and we had to use their adult size wheelchair as communicated at the time of booking. Of course, it made a perfect sense to separate the one for outside and inside especially at a Ryokan but it was the way they said it that upset me a little. However, that was the only small disappointment and the rest went very well. The owners work hard to make sure the guests enjoy the stay. They gave us two rooms and the room they suggested our daughter to be in was bigger than the other and had less steps to the bathroom within. They also gave us one hour of family bath time in order to make bathing our daughter more comfortable and easier. They said they could afford to do it as it was not a busy time. Asunaro provides Yukata bathrobes like every Ryokan does but they have a variety of sizes and designs for us to choose from and are available to purchase at reasonable prices. The Onsen is clean and the water is not too hot, more suitable for non Japanese like my husband. The Ryokan is equipped with a laundry room, too, which works efficiently. If a guest enjoys reading books in Japanese, one could easily extend the stay for a long time. We had delicious breakfast in comfort (chairs). It was raining when we left and they kindly offered to take some of us and the bags to the station in their car. Amazing.
