That said, the stairs to the loft where the main bed is are small and steep so something to keep in mind if you need to try to make it down to use the bathroom and back up in the dead of night. "The Teahupo’o surf break is basically directly out front (off-shore at the reef, of course) but water taxis are right at the shore by the front gate of pension so the location could not be better from that POV. It’s a short walk (5 minutes) on a nice beach path from the Teahupo’o photo wave spot and Olympic rings, or you can drive to the pension and park but only if you’ve got a vehicle capable of river-crossing - so that adds to the charm of the place as well. "Spacious 3 bedroom villa with great air conditioning in bedrooms, wonderful deck and plunge pool. Handy to have washing machine. Close to good restaurants. Welcome guide would be helpful or more communication with host / front desk re garbage etc. We had no mosquitoes and sat outside at dusk and in the evenings. Wonderful stay!"

"Had a wonderful time at this hotel. The breakfast buffet was awesome. The staff was very helpful. The Surfhouse Restaurant was beautiful and had great food. The only issue I have is the small elevator that has to carry everyone and their luggage up and down. The location is centrally located, and very close to the port. I recommend this hotel highly. and would definitely stay there again!"

"The rooms are a bit run down for the price. The reflecting pool below everyone's balconies were full of garbage and alge. Not very appealing. My friends had bird crap all over their balcony and when it was cleaned up by housekeeping, they just smeared it all over the outdoor table. "We chose this place for its walking proximity to the ferry terminal. The hotel is older but clean and reasonably well maintained. The room was spacious and furnished with eclectic vintage furnishings. There was a kitchenette, but no cooking facility or dishes, so not really useful. Our room overlooked a small canal. When I opened the slider to the small patio the air smelled terrible, with fish gasping for air in the black water. Ok for a night, but not a place to hang out and explore Papeete...

"We very much enjoyed our stay at Fare Arihau Vairoo. The room was lovely and comfortable. Our hosts were so friendly and welcoming and took care of us as though we were family. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. All the food was prepared by our host from local ingredients mostly grown in their own garden. All the food was exceptional and the service, some from our hosts little girls, was delightful."
