The town of Montville is a popular mountain getaway that hums with activity year-round. Visitors from all over come to enjoy the many different attractions that the town has to offer. Enjoy a hinterland experience that includes both natural wonders and a creative atmosphere.

Montville was first settled in 1887 and has grown into a thriving shopping village. An array of galleries, gift shops and fashion stores jostle for space with cafés and restaurants along tree-lined streets. As you stroll through the village, enjoy the small-town charm and spot the many different architectural styles, including Tudor, Irish, English, Bavarian and Swiss.

Visit Flame Hill Vineyard & Restaurant to pick up some wine and cheese from this working farm and winery located on one of the highest points in Montville. In February each year, the vineyard hosts the Grape Stomp to celebrate the conclusion of the harvest. Feel the squish of shiraz grapes between your toes as you create your own wine the old-fashioned way.

For an active adventure, put on your hiking boots and venture along the 58-kilometre (36-mile) track of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk, which is accessible through Montville. Refresh yourself in the cool waters of Kondalilla Falls, named after an Aboriginal word for “rushing water”. This area is home to more than 107 bird species, as well as the rare pouched frog. The walk also leads to Baroon Pocket Dam where you can kayak, swim, fish and picnic.

Montville’s nearest train stations are located at Palmwoods or Nambour, which are both approximately a 15-minute taxi ride from Montville. The best way to access Montville, however, is by car. Drive along the Blackall Range Tourist Drive that encompasses Maleny, Witta, Reeseville, Montville, Flaxton, Kondalilla, Mapleton and Cooloolabin. This drive is one of the most spectacular scenic drives along the Sunshine Coast.
