This is a great building with spacious rooms, especially with the extra high ceilings. The common area on the second floor creates a second lobby of sorts, and has interesting art and furniture. If you're looking for a nice place at a reasonable cost, give this historic spot a try.

Hi Lisa! Thank you for the lovely review and 5 out of 5 rating! We at the Montvale are so glad to know you enjoyed the building and its atmosphere. It is our pleasure to have hosted you, and hope to do so again in the future!
Great job of preserving a heritage building. Unfortunately the two restaurant spaces on the main level were permanently closed. Very walkable to downtown and the river front. Did not feel safe walking at night, especially under the railroad bridges which limits your options for dining anywhere south of the hotel.

We appreciate your feedback! We are glad you enjoyed our property. One of the restaurant spaces on the main floor is open all days except Monday and Tuesday. It is called Skewers and they serve Middle Eastern food. We are actively working to get the other space up and running, we hope to accommodate you again in the future and have those options available to you!

Dear Todd, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I'd be remise if I didn't mention the Gilded Unicorn, located right downstairs and is a wonderful restaurant. 1st Avenue Coffee is the local coffee house situated only two doors down from the Montvale front entrance. I am so sorry you weren't aware of these locations. Yes, parking is limited as we are located downtown where all parking is premium priced. The Montvale does have overflow located across the alley way so we do have parking for our guests. Should you decide to return, please do reach out to the front desk for dining options as there are many. Thanks again!
This hotel was amazing. Very cool history and look while still being cofortable and the restraunts attatched were very good. However, since im traveling with a yorkie i chose this hotel due to the pet frienly policy. If you're traveling with any animal over 5 pounds just be aware there is no pet relief area other than the park thats about 4 blocks away.

The Montvale has a great location and makes downtown Spokane very walkable. The Montvale art collection is great. The facilities are old, bit well maintained and the beds are very comfortable.

Dear Stephen, thank you for taking the time to share your experience! Yes, the Montvale is indeed historic as the building was erected in 1899! We are the oldest hotel in Spokane! Thank you for acknowledging our art collection and so pleased to read you share our opinion on our great location. We really are conveniently located to so many things to do in downtown Spokane! Thanks again and know we look forward to having you back!
Unique old charm hotel. Not the best area, but not much choices in DT Spokane. Otherwise convenient location. Heater fan for room was rather loud so shut off during the evening. Still warm enough (Spring reservations) in the room without it. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

We love the boutique-style of this property. It has so much character and the staff are ALWAYS so helpful and friendly. It is close to so many great restaurants and within walking distance to shopping and the Spokane Arena. This is a fantastic place to stay in downtown Spokane!

Dear Vikki! Thank you most kindly for your detailed review! We absolutely agree with your comments in decor and our location is so central to so many wonderful opportunities in entertainment and restaurants in downtown Spokane. Thank you for recognizing our allure. We look forward to seeing you back at the Montvale soon. Wishing you well and thanks again, Vikki.
The building is 125 years old but well maintained. The property itself has a unique charm to it. The exterior walls are great, even just one floor above 1st you could barely hear any road noise (just the occasional emergency vehicle). The floors are creaky and the walls are thin though, which is to be expected of a building this age.
Overall the location is great for a lot of downtown venue activity (the Fox, Riverside Place, Knitting Factory, and more). There is gated/fenced parking for $10/day which is in near an encampment but everyone seemed to stay to themselves. The building has charm, and the bed was very comfortable.

I do hope you enjoyed your room and the environment. Guests find the Montvale very peaceful. In any case, we appreciate your thoughtful comments about staff and our amenities. The staff was amazing, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable to "things to do while visiting the area." The property is outdated, but that is also what makes it unique. The location is perfect walking distance to the Riverfront, shopping, restaurants, boutiques, and cafe shops.

Clean and well maintained.
Pleasant staff.
Only downside was slightly noisy building ventilation fan that runs all the time and makes it hard to sleep.

Great location for doing things downtown. Inside the room there was no decor, no coffee maker or bottled water but there was a refrigerator with a microwave on top. It is an old property with squeaky floors that can wake you up. There was coffee and muffins on our floor but we didn’t know about it until we were leaving. We were there on a weekend when rates were very high due to so many things going on in town so our rate was quite high but we did want that location. In general it just seems like this property could be a lot more inviting with a few updates and refreshing.

Dear Audrey, thank you for sharing your opinion about your experience. I do apologize for missing the opportunity to make sure you knew we had a coffee/tea bar available 24/7. We use Thomas Hammer coffee and it really is good. Regarding the property, please know the Montvale is the oldest hotel in Spokane and is registered as a Historical building - hence the reason you hear the floors. We are very proud of our hotel and we take a lot of pride in ensuring the property keeps it allure of being historic. I am sorry we didn't meet your expectations. Given our location to so many things located downtown, I do hope to earn your business back in the future. Thanks for staying with us and know your candor is appreciated. Respectfully.
Always stay here when we are in Spokane. The staff here is unsurpassed and always goes the extra mile for their guests! The history here and close proximity to dining, shopping, and entertainment can't be beat.

Downtown Spokane has a lot of homeless people. The Montvale does a great job of making sure their property including the parking areas are secure. The employees are friendly and helpful, the rooms are quaint and clean. It's an older building with an older style, but very clean and comfortable.

The Montvale is a wonderful hotel with beautiful furniture on the second floor common space and gorgeous decor. It's got wonderful old fashioned hotel vibes with high ceilings and lush dark carpeting. Parking is convenient and secure and only $10. My husband and I really like the downtown location, walkable to Spokane's shopping area and restaurants. The building infrastructure is well maintained. Our third floor room was hush-quiet and pleasantly warm. No drafts, no noise from a heat pump. Our room had a large screen, hi-def TV, a settee, large bathroom, and king size bed. The amenities for the price is excellent compared to other hotels in the area. We will definitely book it again when we next go to Spokane.

Dear Patricia, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I want to apologize on behalf of the team for the experience you had with our Front Desk. I looked up the agent that checked you in and given his tenure and historical service standard, I am perplexed. Rest assured I will follow up to make sure he is aware of how he made you feel. I am so pleased to hear you enjoyed the facility. The Montvale is currently rated the #1 hotel by Trip Advisor of all the hotels in Spokane and we take that designation very seriously. Again, thanks for your candor and for letting us know. Please know we apologize and will share your comments with the team. Take care, Patricia.
We enjoyed our short stay here. It is dog friendly which we enjoyed and had some good food/ drink selections nearby. I'm not sure what is beyond a few blocks, but this is the theatre district and seemed relatively safe. There is secured parking and the building has charm. The staff was very friendly also. I would stay there again for sure.

Dear William, thank you most kindly for the 5 out of 5 review! I loved reading "clean" and "classy" as that is exactly what we strive for. Thanks again for taking the time to let us know how we are doing. Wishing you well!
Staff at the front desk was friendly upon check-in. Parking was reasonably priced and there was definitely more of it since I stayed at this hotel years ago. We were disappointed in the room though. Description of our room clearly stated it had a Queen size bed, when it most definitely is a full. That was honestly very disappointing as we have a full at home and sleeping in a bigger bed from time to time is nice. I also didn't even know hotels used full beds. The room was also somewhat small. The bathroom was large and it did have a fridge which were helpful. Room also appeared pretty clean. We chose this hotel as it was only a 12 minute walk from a comedy show we were attending, but in the future might pick a different hotel. The bed size situation is just that disappointing.

Response from Kathy - GM on 2 Feb 2024
Dear Jesse, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I can share with conviction that the Montvale does not have any full size beds. We only have King, Queen and the King Parlor Suites have a Murphy Bed, but there are no full size beds. I am happy you enjoyed our location and I am sorry you weren't comfortable with the size of the room. Might I add that in the future, should you decide to return, please request a King room. While just over 60% of our rooms are Queen beds, we do have other options. We do thank you for your candor as it is guests like yourself who help us stay close to the experiences of our guests. Wishing you well, Jesse.
