I enjoted my stay at the hotel. The old world experience of staying in a building that was built for people and not for profit was great. The room size was very generous and I felt comfortable. The fittings were all in good order and well maintained. The view of the roof immediately outside the window was not what I had hoped for but it did show that maintainence on the roof was needed. The small beech trees growing on the rafters needs urgent attention. The shower also needs a clear warning attached to it as the way the shower is plumbed the pressure in the pipes is not moderated by a thermostatic valve. This means that one minute the water temperature is ok but the next, the water is either scalding hot or freezing cold!!
On balance, I would use the hotel again. It is a bastion against the intrusions of modern new buildings and needs preserving at all costs!!
Lovely building, comfortable room and bed. Newly furnished. Very helpful staff. Curry night recommended. Easy parking. In the middle of refurbishment and when its finished will be a beautiful property. Can't fault it and would stay again.
Staff was rude and not helpful, i certainly don’t think is a 4 stars hotel , felt like a 2 star.
Shower doesn’t have door so the bathroom gets soaking wet after a shower, no shampoo neither conditioner and toilet paper was halfway used. Location was great but all the rest was very dissatisfying.
Good clean hotel let down by old wood toilet seat not in the best condition and no usb charging in room, staff were excellent. Just silly little areas let it down!
I can't understand how anyone could have given this place five stars. It's horrible. Sure it's being renovated (although there was no sign of any renovation actually going on) but still - the paint is peeling off the walls, there's dust and dirt all over the floor. The place just feels like it's falling to pieces.
There is unbearable lift music playing in all the public spaces at all times. There is no WiFi in the bedrooms. The staff are often not visible to speak to, and when they do appear they don't allow seem to know what's going on.
It's just a horrible place.
Hi property was alright. Bedroom quite big and all facility in the room. Only saw 5 staff the whole time and very quiet.
Breakfast - waited 10 minutes for someone to appear , although when he did the was very friendly and polite. Went to get another coffee at 10 and was told it been packed away and not possible. Think they need to think about customer service rather than just operation.
Not sure I would return as prefer a more modern and busier hotel
